Public meeting tonight (Thursday) following incident at Ivybridge Estate

Dear forum members It's Anita from Hounslow Council's communications team. I wanted to remind residents of the Ivybridge Estate about a meeting taking place this evening following public concerns about a fatal incident which took place on the estate on Sunday. This meeting has been arranged by Councillor Sue Sampson. Dear resident Following a serious incident on the Ivybridge Estate on Sunday (10 April), I have arranged for a public meeting to be held at 7.30pm on Thursday 14 April, at the Bridgelink Centre, Summerwood Road. At the meeting you can speak directly to Hounslow Police Borough Commander Raj Kohli about any concerns that you may have following the fatal incident, which led to the death of one of our residents. I and officers from the council will also be there to answer any questions you may have.  If there are issues that you wish to raise please come along to the meeting, which is open to all residents on the estate. Questions can be raised during the course of the meeting or you can speak privately to myself, council staff or the police after it has finished. Yes indeed Phil. An article on the homepage outlining the outcome of the meeting wouldn't go amiss, particularly as it was a public meeting and there is a lot of local interest. And before it's pointed out that we could all have attended, well..some of us have to work etc. and can't rearrange things at the drop of a hat. Perhaps any councillor who might read this thread would like to comment..

Original Poster, in this case Hounslow Council.Having taken the trouble to advise us that this event was taking place, the logical thing to have done would have been to have followed up by letting us know how it went and what came from the meeting.I am assuming of course that the purpose of posting in the first place was to impart valuable information to the community rather than simply to give a plug to the councillor.  But maybe I'm a little slow too?

OK I didn't mean that everyone was happy, obviously it was a sad occasion and everybody was sad for the poor boy who was murdered.  What I meant to say was everyone was happy to see Councillor Sampson handle the meeting so well and put in his place a person who thinks he is in charge of Ivybridge.  Don't twist my words to score cheap points, where is YOUR respect?Councillor Sampson doesn't have to explain or apologize for anything, she didnt tell me to post what I said and my words are all my own.

It certainly wasn't enjoyed by anyone in that room. I think its disgusting what this Drick has stated on here. The estate is grieving for a lovely young man. At the meeting it was full off sadness and anger it certainly wasn't "enjoyable night"

Thanks Simon.  Of course I could have just read the OP, sorry ;)If I could hazard a guess I would say this is the beginning of a new initiative by the local Labour group to try to outflank Ivytag on the estate and to wrest control of events back from the residents to the local authority - obviously they don't feel the existing TA is up to the task, and/or is itself not sufficiently compliant.Are all the ward councillors involved in this thing Simon?  Last time I spoke to one of them I was under the impression that she enjoyed a constructive relationship with you, but was out on her own on this.

What is this police forum committee? I know there is a local panel that seems to meet behind closed doors, is this one and the same? What bloody good is anything if it isn't open to the public to participate? It's like the CIA.......

No the meeting was called for by Cllr Sampson, it was attended by the Isleworth SNT Sargent and inspector, the borough commander, Hounslow Council, Our 3 local Councillors, the chair of a new police committee, a couple people who didn't live on the estate inc 1 from Church Street. Well over a hundred residents turnt up and most were angry with the cameras not working and the lack of the wardens, concierge and Police. It was chaired by Cllr Sampson with Cllr Mayne sat at the table with the panel. The Chronicle was there too. It was all controlled By Cllr Sampson who said she was ready to work with the community. We were told it was an ongoing thing to fix the CCTV. 1 Resident said that the Councillors should take a pay cut to help fund activities for the kids but they told us they have already taken a pay cut. Everyone had a chance to put their comments or ask questions except me. the new chair of the police committee asked if someone on the estate could represent Ivybridge on the Police Forum committee. We were told by a member of the panel no one from the resident groups could join. A update meeting is going to be sorted for a few weeks time to update residents on whats happened since last night.I did start setting up a meeting Sunday night and posted it on Facebook before anyone got the letter regarding this meeting, i was going to organize one for about 2wks but as it was already going ahead i didn't feel i had too.

Initially I felt the meeting might have been called a little too soon, bearing in mind that this terrible incident only took place a few days ago.  Nevertheless bringing people from the estate together to share information, offer reassurance and keep people posted about safety initiatives and suchlike can be a good thing if handled correctly, and sensitively.I am however disappointed that once again the public do not appear to have been trusted to participate in a public meeting.  Would I be correct in assuming that our wonderful local authority once again took ownership of this "community" event?  Who chaired the meeting and by whose authority was he/she appointed to do so?

I thought that they caught the critter and I didn't realise there was something more sinister meaning a public meeting was required.  Does this mean it wasn't an isolated incident but a sign things are going backwards?  There was so much effort put into the estate in years gone by which was working.  Shame.

The chair of the meeting, stated the meeting was for all residents on Ivybridge and everyone could ask a question or make a comment. But when i tried to answer something a resident stated about a comment i made on Facebook about cameras on the estate not working the Chair shut me down and refused me to speak.
