GarethI think this just goes to show that issues that effect quite a large percentage of the general public are being discussed by only a small percentage at the moment. The reason some of us have picked up on this subject is through the type of work we are involved in, although the BBC,s Charter isn’t due to be renewed until 2016 it hasn’t stopped people debating to stop this idea dead in its tracks. The Law as it stands now.Under current regulation, no matter what device you use – be it PC, TV or even mobile phone – you need a licence to watch TV programmes. This covers devices with a TV tuner card but these rules also apply if the programme is streamed via a broadband connection at the same time it is broadcast without using a TV tuner card.If you view live or virtually live programmes via a website you are in essence watching the programme at the same time as it is being broadcast and are required to be covered by a valid TV licence.
