Keith Agreed, Pope John Paul not only helped inspire the people of Poland to throw off the shackles of communism throughout the peaceful revolt but also guided many Poles spiritually for more than a quarter of a century. Granted, so too the people of Northern Ireland.But the extremists are as bad as each other and the situation was far worse when the Pope visited Britain.

Interesting question,bearing in mind the work the pope did in bringing down the communist tyranny in Poland with his almost subliminal message of solidarity and freedom.

That'd be Armagh in  Northern Ireland then, Angus,that shining beacon of sectarian violence and religious bigotry?It's probably a good idea that he didn't visit,security wise.Imagine the Archbishop of Canterbury on a jaunt to Dublin.Might wind a few people up ,eh?
