Given that it was a cross party delegation fronted by Major that had the UK opt out of the very best bits of the Maastricht Treaty, I would not take what he says. They presented such a complicated expert smoke and mirrors act that no-one really noticed that the losers from this "Victory' were ordinary working people and the self employed and self employed pensions and contract protection rights. One of the reasons the UK can compete in Europe is that the playing field is not level and the UK has an advantage…if you are an employer. But is has stuffed the millions who are self employed, freelance, on rolling contracts or short to medium term contracts and their inferior pensions which are a complete mess and have not been sorted by any successive governments. No one party is exempt from this debacle and one of the reasons that this whole Stay or leave referendum is still not addressing the issues properly.1. If we stay, How exactly are we going to deal with the top heavy bureaucratic and federal system and sort out the mess.2. If we leave, are we really capable of doing things better? Will it just be business and employers who prosper?
