Vanessa elected to the committee of The Isleworth Society

The Isleworth Society, of which I am a proud Life Member, announced the election of a number of good new people to its managing committee this week, including this forum's own Vanessa Smith.TIS is an ever-present force in Isleworth, doing some fantastic work in monitoring planning developments as well as helping to retain important historical and cultural perspectives.I'm sure other contributors to the forum will agree that Vanessa's appointment will add yet more steel to an already thriving and formidable presence in our community which was never more needed than it is today, and will join me in wishing her the very best of luck with her new work.

I think TIS as an organisation has very sensibly taken the view that as it has many members both inside and outside of Church Street it would not be appropriate for it to try to form a group position on the closure.Presumably taking such a position on the closure itself though would not disqualify the group from taking a view on the *process* through which the decision was reached.  It's in the interests of everyone in Isleworth that residents are not sidelined or ignored on a whim, an approach which TIS have themselves been on the receiving end of in the past.

I don't believe that TIS has expressed an opinion either way, what individuals think is another matter, I know I am vehemently opposed to it.

Congratulations Vanessa.  Can i ask a question, a resident said the other day that the Isleworth society was in favor of the closure of Church street is that correct?

Absolutely not the case where Brentford Community Council is concerned. As Vice-Chair I can assure you that the BCC is concerned with all aspects of Brentford and does its best to respond to all planning applications of concern to Brentford.We are severely lacking in members with the time and expertise to delve into planning applications properly and Denis is seeking to retire but the more people who can get involved the easier it all is so why not join in.

Many congratulations VanessaI was a proud committiee member of TIS for about three years or so and still regret having to resign due to work commitments and the work they do is immense in keeping Isleworth such a still great place to live by keeping such a close eye on what is going on

Good for you.Far better to flag up issues as they emerge rather than after.That said. with all the secrecy and denials as well as the dogmatic deaf ears of the Authority of late, will it make any difference?This site has has many things revealed here first. Denied or simply ignored but there's no escaping the fact that most has turned out to be spot on.Is there similar for Brentford?I know there is Denis Browne's very good group but they do seem to only be interested in the Butts and the listed buildings and not the rest of Brentford or it's conservation areas which are being decimated. They  have not really engaged with the broader gamut which affects a lot of residents and environs.

Thank - you to everyone, I have been a great admirer of The Isleworth Society for many years, and their role in protecting and enhancing this lovely area where we live. I join - as has been mentioned - some very forceful and knowledgeable personalities. Clearly organisations like this have never been needed more than they are now.
