Hounslow waste service costs rise

Hounslow Council had budgeted £11.5m for new equipment and facilities needed to bring waste and recycling collections in house from October 31 this year. But it now calculates the true cost, including the price of building a new waste depot and buying rubbish trucks, will be £28.15m.The Labour -run council claims the investment will enable it to improve the waste collection service for residents and boost recycling rates, saving money in the long term. But the Conservative opposition has balked at the extra expenditure, which Chiswick councillor John Todd described as "most concerning".

For those interested in waste. Take a trip up Transport Avenue. Not the most scenic part of Brentford, but half way up on the left hand side you'll see hundreds of abandoned wheelie bins!If someone clears it away I have photographs to show the intelligent way our money is being spent.

There is no intention of following up enquiries, calls and complaints.Probably more effort in controlling the bins themselves, such as having to put everything in plastic bags, inside a bin, than the more important factors that make the scheme.I wonder how much was spent on the surveys asking people if they wanted wheelie bins for garden waste?  Bins full of insect life with no chance of escape.  I have not yet found anyone who was asked their opinion yet publicity would have it that it is the people's choice.  Wonder whether the environmental department was asked?

Isn't this amazing? With the most recent "successes" of the Hounslow Council relating to waste services such as the weelie bin saga and getting residents pay extra for garden waste. Indeed Labour are so good at spending public money and making public pay.

I think "most concerning " is a bit of an understatementTypical Labour more like who could not care less about spending and wasting public money as usual
