Syon Lane Station
Right from the outset I was suspicious that this not as originally reported. An explosion and fire on railway tracks in west London may have been started deliberately and could have been life threatening, according to police.Syon Lane station, in Hounslow, was partially closed after a substance was put on the tracks and lit last Thursday. The small explosion and fire on the line is believed to have been the work of an arsonist. Police warned the consequences could have been life threatening if a train had been passing at the time.British Transport Police said the substance was deliberately placed along the track at around 9.05am on 14 July. The fire was quickly put out, but the damage to the tracks was considerable, creating huge delays and disruption to services on South West Trains between Brentford and Hounslow.Detectives have appealed for any witnesses who may have seen any suspicious behaviour to come forward."I am extremely keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have witnessed any suspicious behaviour," said Detective Chief Inspector Paul Langley."We believe this substance was placed on the tracks deliberately to cause a fire and so work is being carried out to establish exactly what this substance was."The investigation is ongoing.
