Alfa Laval Offices

I see we have an item on agenda for this Thursday's area planning meeting of:"Former Alfa Laval Offices, Great West Road, Brentford - Pre-application presentation"Anyone have idea what this is about?Living behind the building I would be happy to be the one pressing the oversized detonation plunger!Other facts for conspiracy theorists:1.  A Barrett's manager told me some moons ago he wouldn't be suprised if this land became residental.2.  Hounslow council has been ignoring all enforcement actions regarding the building for 6 months.  I assume they have a good reason for doing this.

in order:a: The same hard boundary should remain.  I did ask about that strange no-mans-land between the fences, and the architect was going to look at it.  Im not sure where you live on the road, but the noise reduction on the lower number will be massive.b:  The gardens are overlooked by the gardens of the "posh" townhouses from the development, so are on the same level.  I don't think their will be tress between. (To be honest they may not be needed)c:  I would agree with that.  It very much depends on what the council allows, a cpz would secure things though (and would deal with those crooks at Fultons at the same time)

I really wanted to go to one of the presentations but unfortunately I was unable to because of prior commitments.  My concerns were:a) security in that at the moment the existing site offers some sort of security to the rear of the properties in Layton Road.  What sort of boundaries are there likely to be?2) I would prefer the gardens of Layton Road not to be overlooked by whatever they are building and would hope that trees would be planted as well as a boundary constructed.3)  On the issue of parking I can't imagine how they can build offices, leisure facilities and 500 units of accommodation on that site and still have room for adequate parking even if it was controlled.  Were any of these matters addressed at the meeting?

Well I nipped along to the planning presentation held at the Alfa Laval site last night, and I'm shocked....They have actually given this some thought and have made a design that I would have no problems with at all!This has turned out to be a really good plan, the main points are that they have considered the blocking effect of the proposed building and the design will blank out the view and noise from the M4.  Also they have staggered the site so the built up part is next to the M4, and the Layton road side is low level.I guess the only thing needed will be a CPZ on surrounding roads if the council insist on low numbers of parking on site.This one really puts the mess they have planned for the old GSK site to shame, and shows what can be done with a little thought.

I'm not sure I care what it's going to be so long as it becomes something other than a derelict building and whoever is responsible for making it into whatever it is going to be I would appreciate some trees being planted along the rear boundary so that whatever it is will be screened from my view and will screen me from its view when using my back garden.

A point about the large adverts which adorn the A4 eyesores.....surely planning permission should be refused, unless the income goes back the community.....why should the owners benefit financially for allowing the buildings tofall into such a state ??

On the subject of enforcement, the same meeting will consider what to do about St George's new block of flats nearing completion alongside the guaging locks. Turns out that they've ignored the plans that were approved, and instead built to the spec.s of a later, larger application that was refused! How's that for cynicism?They play on the fact that the Council will be reluctant to order wholesale demolition at this point, and will seek some amelioration instead.Not only have they built to rejected plans, they never paid the £64,000 S106 contribution towards education, that was due on commencement!
