Fiddlers on the roof - do not fall for this scam
A constituent has alerted me to the fact that individuals posing as roofing contractors are making unsolicited calls on householders in the Grove Park Area. They offer to "show" the householders problems with their roofs and to fix them for them for a small charge agreed verbally. After pulling scores of tiles/slates off the roof they then report that the problem is far worse than they first thought and provide a vastly inflated estimate of what it will cost to fix the roof.DO NOT LET THESE PEOPLE ANYWHERE NEAR YOUR ROOF. DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE ANY MONEY.If you have already fallen for this scam do not be embarrassed (thousands of people fall for this con every year) but contact the Police immediately. I have advised my constituent to inform the Police and he has said that he will do this. The Police however will need to build up an idea of exactly where these creeps are currently "working" so that they can be quickly tracked down and prosecuted. If you see any strangers taking a hard look at roofs in your area then please report this "odd behaviour" to the Police immediately. Please pass this warning on to any vulnerable friends and neighbours. These are the people targeted by such gangs for obvious reasons.
