Council sports centres

I cannot find any price lists or membership prices for our sports centres.  I want to look at prices for individual visits and prices for monthly memberships.  Maybe I am not looking in the right place?  Can anyone help?

I am writing to say how pleased I am with doing exercise through Fusion and their arrangements with the NHS exercise on prescription.  It got me started on an easy (stress free)  programme with a referral from my Dr.  This meant I joined without the £50 admin fee and at a subsidised rate on pay as you go, to see how I got on.Then I was given a membership offer of £5 a week for three months, through Fusion.  Very reasonable you must agree.  After this there is a better rate for ongoing membership.  The trainers are all very helpful and have shown me more of the equipment and there are still some very foreboding machines to make my way on to.I have also seen some of the outdoor gym equipment in local parks which looks very interesting.  I will take the camera out shortly and try to post some pictures for you. X

Carville Park North instructor sessions - commence 10th October with myself, all free of charge to encourage anyone, any age any fitness level.  Will forward times over the weekend.  Whatever your goals are I can help, am known for getting anyone and everyone active, regardless of conditions or dare I say reasons not to exercise! The St Paul's proposal was dropped after some neighbours expressed concerns about noise.But we were still keen to have an outdoor gym in Brentford (as well as the one in Boston Manor Park) and I'm delighted to report that one will be installed in Carville Hall Park (North) and not long to wait - it's going in next week.

I saw a mixed age group using the one at Redlees Park over the summer. I know that one was considered and then declined or thought to be not suitable for St Paul's Park in Brentford and would be interested to learn the reason for this. I do of course understand that there can only be so many ...

Just picked up the latest Hounslow Matters magazine which has a very small piece under Around Hounslow on page 27.  Says there are now lots of outdoor gyms in local parks, all free.  Beaversfield ParkHanworth ParkOsterley sports and athletics centreSouthville (cage) ParkThornbury ParkAvenue ParkHeston ParkBoston Manor ParkRedlees ParkSounds good.  Anyone used them?

I had a very nice email from somebody at Fusion.  They have a 25% offer at the moment and I can cancel at any time, so if I want a month they can take all my bank details then immediately cancel the bank payment.  They have offered to do this over the phone, and no joining fee.

There's the Fitness4less place on Ealing Rd that I am thinking of using. They have different terms for different types of membership, one without a contract just a monthly fee of 24.99.With contract 21.99, no joining fee.It's not a sports centre as such but looks like the full monty as regards gyms.

Well that is the best price list on their site, so far Mark!  It still says that I have to pay through the bank though.  At least it doesn't ask for a joining fee.  Much better.

Thanks Anne but I wanted to compare the fees by checking on line and I do not want to sign up for a year and then have to suspend the membership or have to cancel standing orders.  Checking out other organisations who run council facilities they seem to display all fees on line and do not charge residents arrangement fees. Some councils charge extra for out of Borough members, which would be more reasonable.  Will have to phone or drive down to get an answer it seems.

It really would be easier to pop in to one of the centres. Not ideal I know but there you go. I joined at the New Chiswick Pool a couple of months ago and there was no talk of a yearly fee to join. The cost for a month is something like £36 (concessions) and £55 (other). Once joined, you can use any of the Council's pools, go to classes, use the gym and so on. You can also, without penalty, suspend your membership for a month if you are going to be away as long as you give one month's notice. I think it's a very good deal but like everything else, only if you use it. Have you tried using the phone number I gave some messages ago? I have found that the phone is answered within a reasonable time.

Not getting any replies to my question to Fusion that I would like to try a months membership and how much would that cost.  There appears to be a £35 membership fee to join for a year which is odd as surely I am a Hounslow resident and tax payer and therefore entitled to be a member, for free.People from out of Borough seem to pay the same membership fee but you might expect that as they are not using their council facilities.  I have sent off 5 emails so far asking the cost of one months membership, including one to fusion head office.  No reply so far.

I just got through to Isleworth Leisure Centre (all Hounslow Leisure centres are run by Fusion so it doesn't matter which one you phone) on (020) 8758 4860, the number given on the website. You would be better to phone and to clarify matters with them.For general information, an adult single swim is £4.90 and concessions including 60 and over is £2.90 a swim.

I can see why I didn't spot it.  I needed a list of costs, and I still can't find that.  You have to go in and out of the pages and I can't easily find the costs for one admission.  Also, according to the list it will cost me £50 to register in order to buy one months gym, which is on top of that £50.  Can anyone clarify how to make best choice of short term membership?

You can access the info from home by clicking on the link I provided, then choosing what sort om membership you want e.g. Single, couple, family, and you can choose to pay annually or monthly.

Thanks, Ann and Reg but why can't I access this information from home?  Why do I need to find out costs of a Concil facility b going to the centre, taking up a parking space, and having to ask when I get there?Any reason why it is a secret?

Go to one of the individual leisure centre sites for example Isleworth Leisure Centre and Library and follow the links there. You will at least find the prices for monthly/annual membership - I can't remember whether it gives the price for individual swims. There are reduced prices for those of a certain age but again I'm not sure whether they are there. Could you not pop into, say, New Chiswick Pool or Brentford Fountain Leisure to get the low down? One great thing about the Hounslow membership scheme is that you can use it to go to any one of the pools/gyms.
