Davids newsagents

Hi...does anyone know why Davids newsagents in Windmill is closed? I havent seen David or his dear wife Pam for ages?

I remember starting my first 'job' as a paper delivery boy for David back in the 1950's on what must have been the longest round ever - he certainly got his monies worth out of me. On some days, generally Thurs, Fri and Sun, I would need to split the pile of papers in two and return to the shop half way round the route to collect the second pile. The only consolation was the last paper to be delivered was at the café under the Firestones rail bridge on the Great West Road (now long gone)and I was always rewarded with a steaming hot cup of tea!Over the years I've popped into the shop and the most remarkable thing is that it hasn't changed over all these years ie papers and tobacco on the right, sweets on the left and cards at the far end of the shop.

Never been in that shop before but i have passed it many times on the E2 bus and ive always said i must go in there as it reminds me of the sort of Newesagents that were around when i was a kid in the 1980s. Hope David gets back on his feet soon.

Thank you all for the info!David & Pam have been family friends since before I was born, but due to various circumstances, we have all not been in touch..My sister spoke to a lady about this wonderful couple who told her exactly this news. No!! I cannot see David being let out for good behaviour either!! Ha ha.. Yes, the stairs to their home are so steep, I hated coming down them as a child, even when Pam suggested we got an ice cream for a treat, so I have no idea how David will manage..cant see him with a stairlift somehow!!Does anyone know what hospital David is in? You can PM me , if anyone knows..they do have a son, but Ive no idea where he is to ask. Thank you everyone xx

David had two falls, one of which resulted in a broken hip, hence his hospitalisation. He had his op the following week and is doing well. I am unsure when they will let him out, early release for good behaviour, knowing David, will not be on the cards, ha ha. It is more the amount of stairs at home which is the problem. Generally he is doing well. Pam did go into a home earlier this year as she required more nursing than David was able to supply. But I can report that she too is doing well.

Are you referring to the newsagents on Windmill Road over by St Faith's Church? I remember a young fellow starting that shop so many years ago, at least 60, could that be David?

According to a neighbour,David was hospitalised from his shop on September 8th,with both police and ambulance crew in attendance.He had complained of leg pain and was using a stick.His wife was taken into a care home earlier this year following a spell in hospital.A local resident has posed a notice on the shop security grill, indicating a desire to rent the premises.

I know his wife was taken ill some years ago I don't know if she was in a care home or he was nursing her at homes  other than that not a clue
