Flytipping Issues

Because the food bins have lids. What they do with the recycle boxes is they try to pick up two or three at a time and carry them at an angle. Its not rocket science - by the time they get to the truck some of the contents of the green boxes has fallen out. They see it fall but they just ignore it. They are too rushed and take no pride in their work. Look at the way they then toss the empty green boxes back on the sidewalk. Its quite disgraceful. It doesn't happen in other boroughs (or Spain & Germany)

They seem to be able to manage to empty the food waste bins into the wheelie bins - why are the green boxes so much more difficult?

Yes and one of the main culprits for 'flytipping' is the recycling team.  Every week they pick up the green boxes and allow the contents to spill on the floor en-route to the recycling vehicle. It amazes me that they watch the cardboard, paper and tins splilling on the ground and there is no thought of cleaning up the mess after them. Today was no exception as the recycling,  placed carefully in green boxes by residents trying their best to do their environmental duty, is now strew across the streets. And no doubt tonight my wife and I will be walking the street picking up the litter left by this inept, useless recycling team.  I have in mind next week to walk the streets the night before and empty everyone's recycling into the wheelie bins. I can quite easily ensure I get it all into the wheelie bins without dropping half of it and leaving the neighbiourhood looking like scumsville!!!

I have to say the council need to do more about this issue on Ivybridge Estate. We are constantly reporting items dumped outside the tower blocks and by the recycling area's. A few months ago they sent letters to all residents off 2 Tower Blocks telling them they will get a fine if they dump stuff outside. They get the Cleaners to go threw dumped bags to get evidence which they have provided so much evidence. We have asked the Central area team (The Langdale Center) and the Head of caretaking/cleaning if anyone has been fined and what actions are they taking (after cleaners have told us no one has been fined) But they refuse to reply back on this matter and the issue still goes on. With all the CCTV on here you would think people would be caught. We have asked Recycling to come and meet us as they are not emptying the bin's every week which means they get full up and over flow. The lids on the bin's are unlocked so people dump other items in the bin's and recycling refuse to give a key to the caretakers to lock them. We even emailed Cllr Curran on this issue saying we praise the fact he is cracking down in Hounslow but what about this estate and had no reply. We supposed to have Enforcement officers but we have never seen them. I don't understand why they wont engage with resident groups over this issue. Until the council start prosecuting and handing out fines this will just go on and on.

You can't help thinking that sometimes councils are their own worst enemy. Hounslow Highways are brilliant at clearing tipping but you do have to wonder how much effort is put into trying to find out just who the culprits are. And if they do find someone how hard are they pursued? Some councils name and shame as well as fining, it's been shown with the idiots driving while using a mobile phone that unless the penalties are really harsh people just ignore the law and carry on regardless. I think strict enforcement and CCTV where possible, and the highest fines allowed with a 'Hall of Shame', might just concentrate a few minds. Those of us who witness dumping must also be prepared to give statements to help prosecute offenders.

No problem Simon. Let us know how you get on because as I said they have never failed me!!  Getting a new CPZ parking permit for my wife's new car is another story though. Serco are useless. All they have to do is replace the permit with the new registration number but.........

I have used Hounslow Council's Flytipping link quite a few times and they have been fantastic. They called me back promptly to verify the problem and it was cleared within a couple of hours.(even on a Saturday)

We have a terrible fly tipping problem however, to be fair Hounslow Highways system works very well, and they are pretty hot at clearing rubbish.
