Have a look..

at the photo' on the homepage of the  proposed development south of the high street. It looks horrendous imo, and before you say I'm a nimby who wants to stand in the way of 'progress', that is not the case at all. I know something needs to be done but this looks like a low rent mini Blade Runner set. The development will have to last for 60 or 70 years, imagine what all those fancy greenhouses will look like then. It looks cheap and unimaginative imo.

One of the tricks used by developers proposals is to include the actual construction workers jobs in the overall figure.There is no requirement to prove or account for how many jobs post completion.Nor could they actually know.So it should not even be part of any application unless it is for an industrial or entirely retail facility.

And what's going to take its place is another high rise high density development.  I asked at the exhibition if they could make some of the 'walks' wider and the development lower and he immediately said there would be less profits (in other words)!  Stopped talking to him after that.

Quite a few of the employees at Morrisons appear to have worked there, local to where they live, for a long time whilst the store changed hands again and again.Always very cheery and helpful and a Manager who is often on the shop floor supporting his staff. They still do not know when they will lose their jobs.  When I asked the other day they said they thought it might be before Christmas...

The promise of 'new jobs' is also a double edged sword. Brentford will be losing many jobs when Morrison's closes and whatever retail and restaurant outlets are opened in the new development might well have a negative impact on established local businesses. I will be amazed if the development delivers the 900+ jobs, (unless of course that refers to the blokes who will be building it) and I will eat my bowler if all those jobs are long term.Quite often when a supermarket opens in an area, promising dozens of 'new' jobs, many local businesses go to the wall and dozens of 'old' jobs are lost making the net gain negligible.Oh well, that's progress I suppose...

Well it's the usual 'vision' from some trendy architect, yes, they promise housing any chance a decent proportion will be public housing? Or as I suspect, the normal cobblers about 'affordable' homes, which in reality means no local people will be able to live there.
