Brentford Library closed until further notice

Given the mess outside the Library, I would not place much hope in whoever it is that LBH hires to put a screw in a door hinge. Let alone fix a ceiling.Great British skills. Cutting corners and fiddling.

The Japanese had a bloody great sinkhole opened up in a main shopping area, within a week it was sorted and back to normal even down to the lines painted on the road. Us? Can't even repair a ceiling without some great palaver, is this really the country of Brunel? It's enough to make you weep.

http://www.brentfordcc.org.uk/  and just come along to a meeting. Key contact browne_partnership@hotmail.com - Denis Browne who chairs its main function - the planning sub-committee. It badly needs reliable volunteers with some sort of planning knowledge and also those who can promote the organisation - others too!

How do I find out more about the Brentford Community Council.  I have lived in Brentford for around thirty years, and this is the first time I have heard of this.  Would like to know more and if I can contribute in any way.

Many years ago the Brentford Community Council had it listed.  I wonder how many on this Forum realise how much entirely voluntary work has been carried out by the BCC over the years? No stipend or expenses (unlike Hounslow councillors).

I could cry for Andrew Carnegies lovely dream for education for the people, hence his funding of libraries built across the country. I would assume that the Brentford Library is listed.  If not why not???

Hounslow Council has avoided caring for the Brentford Library Building for donkey's years.  How well I remember the buckets catching water from the roof leaks in the past. So easy to pass the buck now that an external organisation is contracted to run the public library service.This is a disgrace because local people are being deprived of the use of the library and because it is a building of historic interest which provides some character amongst the soulless blocks so beloved of this Council.  I suppose they would really like the library to fall down and then they could sell the plot for a sky scraper.

I just passed the library and had a chat to a helpful young man on site.It seems the concern is related to potential harmful dust, rather than further ceiling collapses. He tells me they are now clear that there is no asbestos involved but they will be testing tomorrow for any other nasties.

There have been un-repaired leaks in the roof for years so not surprised it's falling down.

There has been a problem with a small section of the ceiling coming down, so it is closed pending structural engineers determining the cause and whether further problems are likely to follow.
