We had the Christmas crackers several days later...  They always get forgotten...  and were helped by a two and a half year old who was more enthusiastic about them than anybody else.They clutter up a table already short of space with the whole family to seat so got taken off the table.  Perhaps another year we should put someone just in charge of seating everyone - or putting the crackers out before pudding... There must be a good solution because it is worth having a good groan at the bad jokes and wearing silly hats.

We have happened upon a Christmas tradition in our house which is so daft even I don't believe it. Every year without fail I got Christmas crackers and mostly forgot to the bloody things on the table, so I just put them away and get them out the next year. This year we duly liberated the crackers and I remarked that we wouldn't be forgetting them again - yes - we did - they are still sitting on the ottoman where I left them! Never mind they'll do for 2017.

You're right it's good to look back on memorable Christmases with amusement.The one my grandmother used to talk about was where the dog ran off with the turkey which once retrieved was served up as if nothing had happened.  The story was told many years later and as she always said "What the eye doesn't see the heart doesn't grieve about."There was one where the Christmas pudding was thrown across the dining room....Another when no-one remembered/knew where the cool place was that the turkey had been put the evening before to be safe away from the cats...Let's hope that 2017 will be better than 2016!

Oddly enough it's always the christmas's that get remembered, when something adverse happens.The lengths people go to for the perfect christmas and a day later it's all forgotten, helped by a couple of Gaviscon. But power cut, water or worse and it gets remembered, usually with a laugh or two.Of course it's also a time when some people hit the depths of despair. We've spent the day helping out and it's been the best one for years in so many ways I would not have expected. So much so that we are all off to do it again today..Marry Christmas to all.

Yes, hoping for a much better year - but not an auspicious end to this one at the moment - annoyingly the water pressure has disappeared here and the poor sods in Twickenham & Hampton don't have any at all. Issues with the pumps at Hampton apparently. Two big leaks though both in Nelson Rd. at The Warren junction and just past Whitton High St. near Regan's fish shop  - been running for weeks!
