Parking near Brentford football ground

The number of matches played at Brentford football ground has increased. Parking for residents is a major problem which the football club and council need to make more provison for. Does anyone else agree?

Remember BFC is so cash-strapped the players wash their own kit and even had to paint the changing rooms at the new training ground. If the car-parks can be made freely available then I can't see a problem.However the only way to stop street parking is to get LBH to issue matchday permits to residents and patrol designated streets on these days to ward off punter's cars.

My idea wasn't that the car drivers should pay for parking but that the club should finance it as a service to the local community. If the car parks could be secured for free or for a nominal fee then the expenditure would be minimal for the club.

From my own experience possibly the best way to raise an issue with the club is via their Q&A forum. All questions submitted are answered publically on the club's website, the address is questions@brentfordfc.co.uk, hope it helps.

The club can't do anything because no one is going to pay for parking in the areas you suggest when they can park for free on the roads.It's upto the council to act.

Now here's a subject very close to my heart, I live on the Great West Road near the ground and parking can be difficult at the best of times. I have written to the club in the past suggesting that they get the permission of Glaxo Smithkline to use the car park behind Westgate service station and there is now the old Alfa Lavall building as well. I did not even receive a response. I can only assume that this is because they would have to finance stewards to supervise the car parks and this would of course involve expense to the club. If they really cared about the local residents then I'm sure they would have already acted themselves. As I see it the only time they might take action is if the parking problems cause the gate receipts to go down. Meanwhile stuff the local people if they were of any use to Brentford FC then they'd be at the match and not worried that they dare not go out on a Saturday afternoon for fear of having to park half a mile or more away from home when they get back.Wouldn't it be interesting to see someone from the management at Brentford FC post a reply on this thread,Call me a cynic but I'm the poor sod who got a parking ticket the other week whilst unloading a weekly shop and two children from the car.

The club used to do taht. The residents whose houses backed onto the grounf=d coulkd park in Brentford School for girls. They stopped it before I left Brentford.

There are no more Tuesday games scheduled for this season, unless the Bees make the play offs in which case there could be one more, if there is I'll do my best to remember to post a note.... re the parking problem on match days (which I have to say I'm a contributor to) one solution, which many other league clubs have adopted, is to reach an agreement with local employers whereby the thousands of unused corporate spaces are utilised.... Reading for example use the spaces at Hewlett Packard's HQ.

The problem with the fixture list is that it doesn't list games that have been re-scheduled to a Tuesday.When I first moved to Brook Rd South I went to the match and left my car parked outside my house, came back and it had been towed away.Saying all of that the club have been at GP for 100 years, when people move near a football they have to expect problems.

"I would agree with that, the club have promised to publish a list several times and have never done so.  I'm not too sure its a great problem if you know when things are happening though, the time period is quite short in reality.Personally, we get much greater problems caused by the council and its (mis)management of the Layton Road car park.

....our resident parking includes Saturday.(Church Walk, by the Station)....why does this not apply nearer the ground??

The evening matches are the worst. Last week I popped out and when I came back my road was completely packed - cars were even parked at the end where we need space to turn, so everyone had to reverse out. I drove round and managed to find a space in Glenhurst but had to leave my shopping in the boot because it was too far to carry it. When I went out later to move my car someone had wedged a motorbike infront of my car and left it resting on it so I couldn't reverse and had to get help to stand it upright! I was not a happy bunny. We pay £50 per year for parking but it is only between 9 to 6 mon-fri so doesn't help on match days. It would help if locals were informed of match dates so at least we would know. Sorry - I feel better now!

Parking in Brentford on match days is a nightmare. If I go out on a match day I know I can't come home again before 6.30.  My daughter lives in  Braemar Road where it is a double nightmare and the police don't help having in the past slapped a parking ticket on her car which was parked practically outside her home on a Sunday! Braemar Road is a residential street with no parking restrictions, yellow lines or anything else but because the club wants to drive huge coaches into the ground half the street is coned off.  The police did relent and cancel the ticket but I have had close to stand up fights with the police on at least 2 occasions because of parking on match days.The situation is hardly helped by the number of people who drive to matches when they could easily walk or use public transport.  I was gobsmacked a couple of weeks ago to discover my niece's husband had driven to the match (he goes to every home game) - he  only lives in South Ealing!  Brentford is very well served so far as public transport is concerned main line trains, busses, and of course the underground so why so many people drive is beyond me and for the sake of residents should be discouraged.

Can't speak about Brentford F.C. but when we had horrendous problems with the RFU at Twickers, we in Isleworth with people in Rchmond/Twickenham started meeting with the RFU with council officers from both councils and various reps. from public transport and the Police to find a way forward. We now have a VERY successful free Match Day controlled parking zone paid for by the RFU, and a lot of work has been done to get people to use public transport which has made a tremendous difference.
