The media is part of the problem Raymond, in fact it is a very big part indeed.  We persist with this illusion that we have a "free press".  In truth a press which is owned by a very small number of very rich people who use their outlets as a vehicle for maintaining their own privileged status is not in any way free.One would have thought that in thirteen years of Labour government some attempt might have been made to break this unhealthy monopoly and establish a media which serves the people.  Instead they left it entirely intact.  Ask yourself why that happened.

This is nothing new. In this or several other UK Boroughs.Trouble is this secrecy and bullying is part of British Political culture and is morally corrupt.We might be the mother of democracy but we are also the Masters of connivance and corruption.What is really needed is a massive change and update to protect true democracy.Don't see that coming from any political party in this country.That is why the USA now has Trump. It's the abused political system that has let  it's electorate down and thus paved the way.If the lessons are not learned here - and there have been enough shocks already, then we are as doomed as a society.So far there is no sign that British Politics or it's media are getting the message from the electorate.

Given the way Cllr. Virdi has been treated for trying to shed light on some issues (see Private Eye) and who seems to have been falsely accused of 'leaking', leading to his suspension, is there any point. If these people - the Leader especially, can't be honest with themselves - how honest would they be with us? How heartening to say that Cllr. Virdi has 'brought the Labour Party into disrepute, after the Leader made a laughing stock of himself, his party and the council over the Wheelie bin debacle. No 'disrepute' there then?
