A wheelie bin costs LBH about £17. It used to charge £22 odd for a replacement.Proposed cost now increased to £50. Outrageous, greedy and punitive. No other brand permitted either. John

"Proposed cost now increased to £50. Outrageous, greedy and punitive."That is indeed shocking. When will these bloodsuckers stop ripping off decent people? They are encouraging people to flytip and dump anywhere. They are determined to make this the most disgusting looking borough in the UK. Why?

The bins are supplied by MGB plastics in Yorkshire and they are less than 12 pounds each if purchased in bulk ( over 1000 units) The same discounted price applies to Top Ups and as they tend to split and fail and become unsafe for the loaders after 3 years & need to be recycled. There is also a discount price to Local Authorities for this as well. The individual retail price is around 41.50 for the 140 litre model. So indeed as LBH will not be purchasing at the public retail price they are overcharging.

I don't know what suppliers Hounslow uses or what their procurement policy is but you can buy Wheelies online for less than £50. If they can't get a favourable deal to supply these cheaper so that they can provide them for less than £50 then there's something seriously wrong here. If they insist on these punitive measures they might try insisting that the refuse operatives return the bloody things to their rightful address, instead of leaving them all over the place.

You cannot wash a wheelie bin out if you do not have a front garden, side access or means to get a hosepipe out and carrying buckets of water through the living room is not going to happen. That's why so many are filthy and smelly. It was a stupid idea for some types of housing and it is still a stupid idea for some types of housing as much as it is a good idea for other types of housing. The stupidity is the dogmatic one size fits all attitude.
The design of the household wheelie bin is very odd. A small puff of wind and it goes over. Left in front of the house there are bound to be claims for damage to cars before long. I hate the way we are being forced to use the wheelie bin too.Having a wheelie bin as an adult is simple, I am capable of wrapping stuff up which might make the bin grubby and dropping stuff in which is clean. If it gets grubby it is the adult in me hosing it out. Why are we treated like children and forced to put rubbish inside bin bags, inside the wheelie bin? All that extra plastic which costs extra to buy. Total rubbish.
