So: which buildings flew the flag of St George today?
As Vanessa reported, Whitton High Street was well flagged out as usualand the market stalls along the pavements were many. St George's Day is certainly celebrated in that very English area...and the residents of Whitton should be well pleased. The most memorable sight for me was the flag flying high above the tower at Heston Church. It looked really splendid.Goddards Superstore in Brentford High Street..on the corner with Boston Manor Road...flew the flag proudly...and several pubs along the High Street had flags at their windows..including the Northumberland Arms..but not the Magpie. In Chiswick, I only saw an antique looking Union Jack flying proudly in front of the Town Hall. And finally..at the almighty fortress of the Borough's Civic Centre, in Lampton Road, Hounslow..the flag could not be seen from the road. Indeed driving into the Car Park area at the front of the buildings one couldn't see the flag at first. But then..there it was...behind the Car Park Building...on a large grassy mound...a flagpole...and the flag hanging down...almost hidden...no wind to spread the flag of St George pattern. It was a lonesome sight...out of general view.Did I feel any Civic or national pride there? No.But at Heston Church ..yes. And at Chiswick Town Hall ..yes.Any other reports?
