Twickenham Road Junctions

The junctions of Twickenham Road and both St. John's Road and South Street seem to be the source of back-ups down Twickenham Road.  Both are set up as roundabout.  Being relatively new to driving in the area I wonder if they have always been roundabouts?  Secondly, what would work better?

The idiotic Labour Councillors who closed Church Street are responsible for the Twickenham Road traffic chaos and mess as well as the rat runners now screaming up Worton Road, St Johns Road and Linkfield Road. The mini roundabout at South Street / Twickenham Road causes much confusion as there are plenty of idiots on the road who tend to forget the roundabout rules when it comes to 'mini' roundabouts. It's an accident waiting to happen.

A difficulty with roundabouts where there are only 2 exits is that you have traffic approaching from north and south in this case and both lanes are on the approaching drivers' right, so who gives way to who? I suppose it should make people more cagey about entering the roundabout but it does create minor uncertainty.

I've been actually driving there northbound daily for the last 4 years at around 5pm. Now the traffic is always moving - slowly but no stop. With traffic lights (allegedly 'smart') traffic used to stop for red light and the queues were horrible - a lot worse than what I see now.

I think the South Street roundabout works better than the old lights.My main issue is with the Worton Road traffic lights where I often find there is an extended stop phase on all arms while the pedestrian crossing lights are all at green. And this occurs when there is no pedestrian wanting to cross. A more intelligent system that doesn't do the same thing throughout the day should increase capacity.

Being a frequenter of Isleworth Pool and having at one time worked in Twickenham, it seems to me that the 'new' roundabout arrangement has meant that traffic flows more easily than previously. Having said that, I'll probably have a prang there some time soon!

Which is probably why they were done away with, the clearly less than intelligent beings who are in charge of these things obviously felt upstaged by the traffic lights!Joking aside, there is an issue with a "blind spot" where traffic approaching the roundabout heading in the Twickenham direction cannot see vehicles indicating right if there is another vehicle in front of them, creating the potential for a collision between vehicles continuing along Twickenham Road and those facing the opposite direction turning right into South Street.And yes, they have been told but they seem to take offence at having things like this pointed out to them by the grunts and so nothing will be done until either it is noticed by somebody important, or there is an accident.

The lights on South Street were 'intelligent' lights.  When they turned to red, if there were no cars waiting to go through, they went back to green straight away. Could do with more lights like those.

The junction with South Street used to have traffic lights. The current roundabout is much better. The delays going northbound are now mostly caused by the pedestrian crossing with traffic light past the roundabout.

The idiots that closed Church St. are also responsible for the stupid roundabout at the junction of South St. which, in my view is downright dangerous. This is all part of doing things piecemeal instead of having a comprehensive traffic management plan for the whole area. We are told - if you can believe them - that this is all going to be addressed - the fact that a lot of people tried to point out the shortcomings as these things were being mooted and got totally ignored of is no significance of course. The junctions at Worton Rd. and Mogden Lane with Twickenham Rd. both need looking at, and apparently TfL are considering lights on the roundabout at the A316. As for that mini roundabout at South St. - still people coming down the Twickenham Rd. overtake cars indicating left into South St. you have to be very careful there.
