My first year of watching it as well. We used to watch it from the first floor bay window of Cronin's seed chandlers on Boston Road (he was a Boer War veteran and a friend of my grandmother.It used to take almost an hour to pass, used to be loads of bands and was always lead by 'Little Tich' with oversized boots and a top hat.

Firstly you are up and running on PMs  well done!Yes I do very much remember the floating classroom,I think we all had to pay something like 2 bob  a week for the pleasure.I had one trip from school to Brentford and return.  Some of the hooligan element rocked the boat going through the lock so violently that the canopy was touching both sides of the lock,Mr.Obrien came round and clouted every single boy on board round the head...I  was most unchuffed as I played no part in it and got my only piece of corporal punishment whilst at school.      The barge didn't last long, rumour had it that some boys who got barred came along at night an drilled blooming great holes in the bottom....sad really.    My least favourite teacher was Mr.Adams whom I sure you'll remember...I can't remember him having one redeeming factor,I'm assuming he's no longer of this world so won't say too much 'bout 'I'm.

Hi Nick    I'm a little confused. Are you trying to send a posting  to an existing thread or do you want to send a private email to another poster via the board?     If it's the first option then you seem to be up and running, if you look at the latest page you'll notice that there are 4 posters whose name is in black the rest  are in blue, you can only send to blue ones the black name have opted out of Personal Messages,at present in the list you are shown in black so nobody can PM you and likewise black ones can't pm you.    Should you want to change your name to blue I think you'll  have to sign up again from scratch and answer yes to the question something like "Do you want to use personal messages" with a yes. I don't know of an easy way to do it.    Perhaps if another poster know a better way they'll pop up and put you right!!

Nick..click on the name of the person you want to email and as long as it is blue you will get a mail style page.  Apparently the secret at this point is to make sure you write something in the subject box...?

Nick.  If you look at your name in the heading it is in black which means if somebody wants to send you a personal email, the link will not be there.  If your name is in blue, there is a link through the forum to the email address you registered with the forum.  Often I have to sign in again, and when I do if I try and post a message straight away I get the messages you mention.  I have found that I have to sign in then go to the home page, they try and post.  Very annoying but it is more annoying if I send a personal message and it doesn't get through the the recipient even when their name is highlighted in blue.  I don't send personal messages very often but I did send one to the Ed, Audrey and the relative of Gerry Tan, none of which got there.

Re Bordeston. Do you remember the school barge. You ought to put some of your memories on Francis Frith. Here are some names of teachers. Mr Jones. Beaky Goddard. Mr Mitchell. Mr Richardson. Mr Richardson. Mr Wilkinson. Mr Griffiths. Mr Mc Vee. Mr Walmsley.

Sarah I have sometimes noticed after I have typed up a post it will not submit. I get a screen of msgs such as Http Server does not recognise etc. Does this mean anything to you? It really is itritating as I have quite a lot of memories to contribute, hope that does not sound arrogant. Also should I be able to put a post on a heading from 2005? Nick

Hello Nick and Paul     I think it was the Guide to Ealing nowhere site,I'll have a look later. I was a year lower than yourselves.      A long time ago you Nick wrote on Friendsreunited that you used to come to the youth club dances in the old wooden hall and  that there was a band that played a mean  version of Walk don't run by the Ventures" I don't know about that but I was one of the guitarists!  I remember that from the stage you were head and shoulders above everyone, you must have been 6'2 or 3. I was a hopeless guitarist and migrated to the recording side, I'm still at it even at my advanced years.Paul. I left in 63 and John Gosling was still deputy head but I think he became head in 64.Prior to that the head was Mr.Obrien.

Not a trace of Bordeston remains now as the newly expanded Elthorne Park High School covers the whole site.58-61, was that the time when John Gosling was headmaster?John was our church organist for years.Loads of my mates from Oaklands went on to Bordeston.

Nicholas A pm message is just a Personal Message not visible to anyone  other than the sender/receiver. It looks like when you signed up you opted not to use PMs as your name is shown in a different colour to members who have signed for PMs.
