School in hot weather

My daughter left her bag on the bus last week, it had her PE kit in it.  Because she didn't tell me until this morning, and we could have had all weekend to go out and get her a new one, she had to go in today without a PE kit.Now, I know its her own fault for losing her bag in the first place, and not telling me about it, but the teacher actually made her do the PE lesson in her knickers. Claiming that as it was hot, her uniform wouldn't be appropriate, as uniform would be what they would normally do the lesson in if they didn't have their kit.I'm not sure whether this is appropriate or not?

What is the point of all this work on 'safeguarding' and all the publicity about it if parents don't understand that in this day and age this behaviour is unacceptable? Good job it wasn't my daughter, this school needs a good kick up the rear, they are well out of order, and clearly haven't a clue.

That may be the point the teacher was making.. anyone 'forgetting' their PE kit would not result in being excused PE.

To be honest, I think she's forgotten about it now, so probably no point creating any fuss about it. Although she will be making sure she's got her PE kit with her in future!

This might well be worth reporting as a 'Safeguarding' issue, it really isn't acceptable in this day and age, what sort of a school treats its students like that?

Yes, I remember uniform knickers (black for us)! Bit different to having to do it in normal ones, which is what we had to do if we forgot our kit. I just wouldn't have expected that to still happen in this day and age.

I remember that when I came from Canada aged 9 I was horrified at having to do P.E. in knickers and vest. At High School we wore the regulation (part of uniform) navy blue knicks apart from hockey when we wore a short 'skirt'.Ordinary knickers would, to my mind, be a no-no especially on a 14 year old.

She's 14. Was an indoor lesson. She was embarrassed, but she accepts that it was her fault for losing her kit. The school doesn't keep spares, as normally they'd just do it in their uniform if they haven't got their kit.

How old is she?  Was it indoor or outside!  Is it all girls?  Was she embarrassed or are you being embarrassed for her?  Is it the teacher or is this what the school has decided to do?  My children's school (years ago) kept spares in case this happened, the children would bring them home for us to wash then take them back in.
