water leak on Lionel Road North

For 48 hours water has been pouring from a cracked underground pipe at the top of Lionel Road North (most probably caused by the huge, heavy construction vehicles accessing from the back the building works in The Pavement, Popes Lane). Several people, myself included, have reported this to Thames Water and been fobbed off with all sorts of excuses as to why nothing is being done. One person was told they'll get round to it when they can! Meanwhile, thousands of gallons of water are being wasted, while we, of course, pay for every metered drop we use. It seems to be impossible to get this urgent repair done. It is an absolute scandal.

They seem to have turned the water off now. I don't think it is repaired, but at least the leak has been isolated and stopped.

Words fail me! Whoever made that decision should be sent to prison until the leak is repaired. That would speed it up! And, since that's not possible, they should personally have to pay for the wasted water out of their own pocket, given that money is the only language they understand. It's no good fining Thames Water as we end up paying for it. Where is Offwat?

I saw yesterday that Thames Water have put up a sign stating that the leak will be fixed on 30th June. How many hundreds of thousands of gallons of precious water will disappear into the sewers while they take 7 days to repair a leak. Still - it's not a problem for them, we'll be paying for their incompetence from our water rates while they still siphon off their profits abroad.

Thames Water got a heavy fine just this week, just as the Aussies sold their last shares.The fine follows the release of Thames Water’s annual report which revealed full-year pre-tax profits plunged almost 90pc to £71.1m in the year to end of March, a drop it attributed to revaluation of financial instruments, higher costs and lower income from property sales. Operating profit declined by £137m to £605m.It also paid out £100m in dividends to investors, with Thames being owned by some of the world’s biggest pension and infrastructure funds, including the Kuwait Investment Authority and Canada’s leading pension fund.
