Linkfield Road - hold on to your hats!

So-from the end of July for 18 months there will be no entry to Linkfield Road from the London Road end. This will be 'enforced' by CCTV and fines (Ealing council did similar near the town hall and made over £900,000 in fines). Good luck to anyone who actually lives in Linkfield - the queues along Twickenham Road during rush hour are set to become even more diabolical.Well done Hounslow...what fools.

The council's answer was to install CCTV cameras - nice little earner for them - but does nothing for road safety whatsoever.

I saw my first driver who was not going to sit in the queue towards the library, do the illegal uturn and enter Dawes Avenue as you describe Vanessa.  He blocked both lanes and had a bike been coming up the inside of either he would have knocked them off as his focus was turning the car around, not the other road users.  The long strips in the middle of the road used to give safe cover for pedestrians crossing at numerous points along the road.

The irony of some of these decisions in the face of local's comments never ceases to amaze. The reason given for shortening the median strip at the junction of Twickenham Rd. and Dawes Ave. thus leading to illegal r/h turns and all the other consequent problems was - that that part of Twickenham Rd. was made safer for cyclists! I can't think of one part of Twickenham Rd. suitable for cyclists with all that traffic forced on it. Talk about men are from Mars - traffic engineers are from planet Zog.

Oh, push-lease, Reg.  Huge planters to close the road.  It is all part of a plan to make us take the road routes through the centre of Hounslow as that is the only way to get residents of the borough to go there.

At the most recent public meeting the majority rejected closing Linkfield Road from the London Road but instead suggested closing it slightly further down at the junction with Loring Road. That was suggested by the driver of an emergency vehicle and as said most of us agreed that would work much better so that traffic circulation could continue..I see they have chosen to ignore that so what was the point of having a meeting about it.

These sort of things didn't happen when Chris Calvi-Freeman was head of traffic, he seem to be the voice of reason and would point out the faults of ill conceived traffic schemes.It seems that his replacement isn't capable of asserting him or herself and just does as there told

Apart from anything else eighteen months takes us to Christmas of 2018.  Does anybody seriously think this issue will be revisited while the Civic Centre is closed and officers are away on their holidays?Either they haven't thought of this, which would be remiss, or else they have - if you get my drift.It also conveniently takes the "trial" period beyond the next local elections, which will allow hints to be dropped that councillors might be minded to scrap the plan - followed by much hilarity at our expense once the polls have closed.If this ongoing circus is to be brought to a halt next May then someone needs to be doing something to help bring that about sooner rather than later.  Even bad councillors will retain safe seats unless they are subject to an organised and credible challenge. They will already have worked this out, which is why they are laughing at the community.

What is it with Hounslow and this 18 month business? Any idiot knows that it doesn't take that long to see if something works or not. As with the stupid Church St. 'temporary' closure, if they used that time to try various schemes giving them a couple of months at a time, in order to see what works best, you could understand it. This is just plain bonkers, do our councillors really dislike us so much? Well, that can be remedied next May.
