New Starbucks Kew Bridge

Front page story announces a new Starbucks at Kew Bridge where the old bank was years ago.  It is going to be right next to what looks to be an independent coffee shop opening up in the old station ticket office the Kew Roastery?

That reminds me of when I used to take a healthy salad to work and then still go to the supermarket nearby and buy some unhealthy treats at lunch !.The whole coffee shop thing was, as far as I recall, completely unheard of 20-25 years ago, you'd get independent cafes and such like but places like Starbucks, Costa, Cafe Nero etc. weren't on the British high street at all, it never ceases to amaze me just how popular such places are now.

Do we really have such busy lives that instead of eating breakfast at home with our families before going to work, we almost jump straight of our beds onto the train to commute to our jobs ?.I used to see it in our office, people would arrive for work at 8am and then spent the first half hour of their day sat at their eating cereal and drinking coffee they've bought on the way in - they weren't working as such, so there was no reason why they couldn't have relaxed for another 20 minutes at home.Nothing against such places for the occasional hot drink or catch up with an acquaintance (I probably set food in such places 5 times a year) but I always feel it's an indicator of just how twisted work/life balance has become and how society isn't what it once was.All part of the reason why I'm now self-employed.

I must say the coffee is very nice and the price is good. Will for sure visit. They do need a loyalty scheme as well.

Open today and looks to have a good range of coffees. Makes such a difference to have something welcoming at the top of the station steps. Who needs Starbucks!

Any ideas on the date when Roastery will open? I am looking forward to it. Guess I am their typical client who will pick up a coffee before taking the train to Waterloo every morning.Big No to Starbucks - Would prefer to give my business to anyone but a faceless global organisation

I was wondering why we needed quite so many outlets there as I had forgotten about the new stadium or, to be more accurate, I have been trying hard to put it and the chaos it will cause out of my mind.

There is a fair number of people who do a reverse commute to Kew Bridge then walk to Chiswick Business Park.I feel sorry for the owners of Roastery if they didn't know that Starbucks were opening almost next door...Still, the only way to fight back is to have better coffee, food and staff!

yes it looks like that. I have no idea if the Roastery will be a coffee shop but definitely will be in front of Costa Cafe :-D so we will have a full coffee gentrified area ;-) In term of business Smart Move from Starbucks..With all the professional commuters they are heading to Waterloo that is great spot for a take away to drink on the train...plus once the new stadium will be opened that area will be very busy with football and rugby supporters who are potential customers
