What is going on with the benefits system?

At the hustings in Brentford before the election, an unhappy guy appeared making his point in very distressed language that his claim to benefits had been messed up.  Somebody later said that it is now deemed acceptable for somebody to be without  money for several weeks whilst a claim is changed around.  This is what had happen to him.Somebody I know has made a claim and was told it would be several weeks before they get any money.  Several weeks later they ring to find out how things are progressing, to be told their claim was closed.  No letters to confirm anything or give any hints as to what is going on.  The suggestion is that they have to reclaim from today.  What on earth?

People dont realise whats going on. They think our benefit system is so great they dont bother to look at other countries  eg Sweden etc. When the robots come one country has set a payment of £400.00 a month for personal spending on top of un employment pay etc. We are not even talking about what we will do. Best bet raise the retirement age, thats all we can do!

Well they were supposed to contact him on some on line forum, on Friday.  Did they?  Heck!  There was a time when you were legally entitled to a written decision about a claim, at least you then had some idea if what was going on!

Yes indeed Nicholas, and it also allows smoking on the premises. It's no coincidence that the only places exempted from the smoking ban were prisons and palaces,it being The Palace of Westminster. One law for them and a different one for the rest of us..no surprise there then.

Very very true. Can anybody name a company that runs a bar in their place of work and allows drinking in work time. Then on top subsidises the price. Well that happens in parliment.

I don't understand why people are so surprised that this shambles of a government put people through this, they don't give a damn. Still with Mr Hammond raking in £10,000 a month in rent and standing to make millions from a land sale, and the idiot Duncan Smith living rent free courtesy of his father in law, what do they know about the real world.
