Albany Arms and Area.
This pub has been vacant too long, been mismanaged and finally needs some love put into it. I'm sure you will all agree on this. The above is a very sweeping assumption at best. Of all the comments posted in reply the one by Mr Paul Brownlee is the most perceptive.I also would fundamentally oppose any application for a licence to reopen the Albany Arms. The events of March 2010 have left me familiar with section 51 of the Licensing Act 2003 and L B of Hounslow relevant departments and hearings. One difference between the history of the pub and the present day is that the average house price in Albany Road is now approx £522k-Zoopla 9th Oct 2017 whereas pub trade has declined. The distance between the Albany Arms and the terraced housing opposite is less than approx 40ft or 12M, other houses are very close. This is the hard fact that means the pub would require a friendly attitude from its neighbors. The application is doubtless in goodwill but in my opinion very naive. The building has been vacant too long of course- and the solution would be to make it into flats just like the Bricklayers Arms or the Pottery Arms.I would not support demolition of the building to make flats as was the case for the George and Dragon or the Windmill.I would argue very strongly with any future property developer that the building falls within St Pauls conservation area and that the frontage of the Albany Arms should be retained.
