Much of these were apparently written in the Bricklayers arms on Ealing Road (which was represented as the Flying Swan in the books). In fact, if you go to Ealing Road and look at the houses which the bricklayers arms was turned into you will see a rather nice decoration of a flying swan.

It's a part of the Robert Rankin trilogy that turned into a 5 book affair. This book is the second, the first being The Antipope, and the third being East of Ealing. They are all a good laugh and have some gems of homespun philosophy and some truisms,a little prosaic at times but entertaining none the less.
