St Georges Church

I've just discovered that St Georges Church now that it's being converted into apartments is no longer in Brentford but guess where ... Kew Bridge!  Who knew?

Apologies to Jim Storrar. The info on the former railway line at Chiswick Village was from his post on this forum - a thread not far below this one at the moment.

Of course plenty of pubs and other facilities nearby but nothing in the "village" itself with the Chiswick Village road name.  Incidentally I recently read on the W4 forum that the development was built on a sweep of disused railway line that connected the West-East line of Kew Bridge, Chiswick etc to the South-North line of Kew Gardens, Gunnersbury etc

Depending on the year at Chiswick Village, you could get your shoes mended in the riverside cobblers at the side of the Bell & Crown.

The first flat I bought in London was in Chiswick Village. I recall early visitors were disappointed to find interwar tenement style identical blocks of flats with no shops or pubs....

As is ASDA even thought the 'Welcome to Isleworth' sign is right outside their shop on Twickenham Rd.! I think quite a few people have written to Tesco and ASDA over the years all to no avail.

the area known as Chiswick Village is this Estate of flats - its fairly enclosed and its quite hard to actually access.  i do know where it is, but dont often actually go thru there.  Its been known as Chiswick Village for as long as i can remember.

I think you miss the point I was making Jennifer - whilst I'm aware there is a small estate within Chiswick called 'Chiswick Village', the numerous posts on W4 about CS9 where some posters describe Chiswick in its entirety being a 'village' are laughable and damage the entire credibility of what might otherwise be valid concerns.

It's the estate of flats bordering the railway line to the south,  just before it enters Kew Bridge Station and the overground and District line trains from Gunnersbury to Kew on the eastern border - the other side of the railway line is the Strand on the Green area.  Both Chiswick Village and S ot G are classified as Chiswick W4.

"Old Isleworth is now apparently Isleworth Village since all the new builds have been finished as well as being “Inspiring” also!"I don't know about the 'Inspiring' bit but that's interesting as a house opposite us went up for sale last week, and apparently this is now part of 'Old Isleworth' now! Total nonsense, and the new builds down at Nazareth House are being advertised by some estate agents as 'St. Margarets'. We'll all have to carry a GPS with us shortly to make sure we know where the hell we live.

It isn't just developers that do this though, one only has to look at some of the CS9 threads on the W4 forum where a minority of posters try to make out Chiswick is a village.Similarly I recent had numerous objections to a scheme I'm working on in Earlsfield which described it as a village.

Like the chap with the orthopaedic shoes, I stand corrected. I wrong thought the church further down the high street and opposite Costcutter was the church in question.

According to Google, walking by road, Kew Bridge Station is nearest to St George Church.

The nearest station Brentford and Syon Lane is probably nearer as well.

It's listed as 358 Brentford High St on Rightmove, albeit nearest station is Kew Bridge.This is hardly new, though we try to resist it. When I lived in Acton, everything was listed by estate agents as Ealing border, Chiswick border, or 'the sought after Poets Corner, with never a mention of the A-word!
