New Youth Football Team For Hounslow
A new youth football team has been created in Hounslow, through the efforts of local young people as well workers from the Khat Project, a local anti-drugs organisation working with Somali youth. Hassan Isse of the Khat Project helped the young people to organise a programme of educational activities, alongside Ahmed Awale, coach, and youth worker Guy Smith of the SAFE project. The young people, who train every week in Hounslow, paricipated in daily coaching over the Easter holidays, as well as educational visits from health workers and the local Police Community Safety Unit. This was achived partly through generous funding from Hounslow Youth Service's PAYP programme. The club aims to offer young people not just the opptunity to participate in football, but also diversonary and educational activities aimed at improving life chances and reducing the risk of crime and drug use. Horseed FC which translates literally as "Pioneeers" and is the name of one of Somalia's most famous clubs, intend to enter a league competition in September and to this end, are looking for coaches, helpers, committee members and players for the new season. Anyone who is interested in helping out, or who wants to know more about Horseed FC''s programme can contact Hassan Isse on 07739 97718.
