Unripe Fruit and Vegetables
Many fruit and vegetables sold in shops are not ripe. Bananas are an obvious one as they are picked green before they travel thousands of miles. Tomatoes generally aren't ripe and shouldn't be kept in the fridge or they won't ripen. Avocados are often sold hard and ready to ripen at home.If you visit the supermarket in the evening you can often find fresh fruit and vegetables marked down in price because they are about to exceed their "Best Before" date .... but they still aren't ripe. If you want to make a fruit salad for the same day that is often what you have to do.If we don't eat fruit and vegetables when they are ripe and at their best we really are missing out.So what are "Out of date fruit and vegetables"? Have people really been brainwashed enough to be chucking stuff out just because it is past its Best Before date when is perfectly legal to sell food past its Best Before date and there is actually at least one online company that does this?Do people still not realise the difference between Use By dates and Best Before dates?http://www.therubbishdiet.org.uk/should-you-throw-away-food-past-its-best-before-date/
