A4 - Hostile Street?
I notice the recent comments by Caroline Russell (Green Party LA member) that the A4 through Brentford is a "hostile street". She says that she feels that this is a place for cars - what does she expect - it's a ROAD! I live very close to the A4, and have no problems navigating the area with my two small children - there are numerous pedestrian crossings that are perfectly safe to use. The comment that people wait "ages" to cross is nonsense - of course you might wait a minute or two for the green signal, but this is the same as any pedestrian crossing in any street in the country. At least cars stop for red lights - I feel much more threatened by cyclists who refuse to stop for anybody. I am fed up by misguided attempts to "improve" this road, such as the recent changes at the bottom of Windmill Road, which only lead to increased congestion - with knock-on effects of higher levels of pollution and reduced safety for ALL road users. The A4 is a major route into and out of London – these people won’t be happy until all cars are restricted to 4mph with someone walking ahead carrying a red flag.
