Do we view Oxfam differently to say a year ago?

Some of these charities have to deal with some of the most despot, dodgy and corrupt societies on the planet.We see in our normal civil and law abiding society how corrupt and unethical things can be and the lengths some will to go to achieve their objectives.I am not at all surprised that some charities probably have to meet corruption and unethical practices with the same, simply get access to where the help is needed.It probably takes a certain sort of mentality to do this and no doubt these people succumb to temptation or fallibility themselves too easily.

We read today that Brendan Cox has stepped down fron two charities that were opened in memory of his late wife. Can someone explain why there are so many charities being opened?

I would think that all massive operations have their problems, be they charities or businesses, sport, or, for that matter, politics. The real question is how they then deal with these matters once they have come to light, there is always this arse covering mentality that seems to take preference which then allows this disgraceful behaviour to continue. Look at the F.A. and the latest scandal, people were informing them of what was going on and they just ignored it, to the cost of children dreadfully abused, and lives blighted. The only way forward is to shine a light on what is going on, admit there us a problem, then be as transparent and open as it is possible to be going forward. Then put in place meaningful Whistleblowing procedures that have to be addressed.

No. I don't. I merely point out that this is a common occurrence in all walks of life and it is almost always men who commit these acts.To single out Oxfam is to miss the bigger issue; that sexual harassment/abuse happens everywhere.You're entitled to dismiss this post but nothing I've said is inaccurate.

The same, more or less, but declined further when they tried to throw their weight around recently in politics. Never liked them anyway.

I fear that this is a 'man' problem not an Oxfam problem. Where there are men this kind of abuse will, sadly, often be found.

Exactly why charities aren't going to trumpet the things that don't go as they should.  It is a bit unfair to just pick on Oxfam though as a lot of things don't go as they should under all the stresses of these crises and Oxfam is not the only charity with these sorts of problems. It seemed to be very undignified the way an awful lot of the charities were jostling to raise their profiles and get their people into Haiti - too many organisations - and it then seemed to take too long to actually get help out to people - but then it was a humanitarian crisis.The UN has also come under criticism but I suppose that they are too difficult to do the British person-in-the-street voting with the feet about.

Hopefully my attitude will change as I am sure they do excellent work in general but I have no intention of donating any time soon
