Canvassed

A fairly good crowd of local Tories on Worple yesterday - had an interesting chat with them, all very good natured. They are going to campaign to re-open Church St. which is all very well but as I said there's a bit more to these elections than the Church St. debacle, the treatment of some present councillors, the lies some of us have been told, and the arrogant, overbearing bullying of some of Labour's leading lights. Then they mentioned the 'B' word - as they were all Brexiteers it seems, which is definitely where this house parts company with them. Will be interesting to see if the present incumbents knock at our door.

Tory candidates come from Ivybridge and Labour candidates bat for Church Street.  Funny old world isn't it?

I had the 3 candidates at my door yesterday begging for my support as they know how i feel about our local Labour lot. The trouble is i have never ever voted Tory i hate them. They stand for the rich. Its funny in 2006 we gave a petition in to the council to keep the concierge the same on the estate. Every flat in all 4 Tower blocks signed it and the concierge was cut for rubbish wardens..who was in charge of the council The Tories with the ICG. They were trying to down play the bedroom tax to me but it wasnt the answer i wanted to hear. I was then asked to vote them as a protest. What i would like to see is Linda Green stand independently as she get my full support. I am not sure what i am going to do this year.

I agree, but presumably they felt there was some benefit to be had from pushing this line, albeit through a channel which they could later disaasociate themselves from.On a personal level it occurs to me that unless there quickly emerges some kind of viable community alternative I will be voting once again for some combination of Greens and/or Lib Dems, which itself is depressing because neither of them seem any more poised than the Conservatives to challenge local Labour on the glaring issue of the appalling cronyism and conduct of its councillors in office.

"I seem to recall local Labour repeatedly claiming on this forum that you, Paul Fisher and myself had been selected as the Tory candidates for Isleworth?  Does this mean we've been sacked?I think we should be told."Sorry to p*ss on anyone's chips but even though I have my differences and disagreements with the Labour party locally, and as I explained to the Tory canvassers on seeing their blue rosettes, there is no way anyone in this house would vote Conservative, let alone want to be a candidate. I just find their whole ideology offensive and alien to anything I was brought up to believe in. I'd be a damned sight happier if they presented a decent and credible opposition to the majority party, God alone knows they've been given enough ammunition over the last four years, and failed to take them to task in the most dismal manner. Ninja wheelies anyone?

We also had the Conservative canvassers knock at our door yesterday and they did seem a very decent bunch but dont really think they have much of a chance in Isleworth or Syon Labour have made no secret of the fact they believe they have a genuine chance of getting some seats in the Chiswick wards

I saw a few Labour canvassers (big red clipboard and red badges, so I assume it was them) on Wellesley Road.Interesting if Tories are campaigning in Labour areas and Labour are campaigning in Tory places. I wonder who we'll think had the better targetting after May.

Old fake news by local Labour, certainly.  If that wasn't what you meant then I'm not sure what your post was driving at John - the allegations that the three of us were supposed to have been selected as Tory candidates are a matter of record, one simply has to scroll back through old threads to see them.  If you recall a false name was used in order to give local Labour deniability when the allegations came to be disproved, which for me just demonstrates the contempt in which these people hold those they aspire to represent.
