Curran's overnight parking initiative

"Motorists are reminded that parking on double yellow lines is not permitted at any time. Drivers should always check on-street signage to see if parking restrictions apply."First you are told you can't park on double yellows at any time, then check the on street signs!Talk about contradictory - what drivers should do is ALWAYS check the yellow time plates that will tell you exactly what times the parking restrictions apply, double yellows therefore may not necessarily mean No Parking at any time.

"This is an exceptional initiative. Very happy and much needed." Yes, these people park illegally which is one thing, but what gets me is the litter they leave. Cans, coffee cups, MacDonalds packages, water bottles etc. Perhaps if these people didn't behave like such scum, people would be more tolerant. As it stands they should be clamped, fined and sentenced to community service to clean up litter.

curran and "initiative" ?an oxymoron if ever i've heard one.not sure he'd have the same angst if it didn't impinge on his ability on parking the monstrosity he can now drive as "leader"

Its the ‘Uber’ night shft, they usually leave a little present in the gutter of a dubious liquid in a plastic bottle for us to find in the morning, and yes they are still active dispite the ban, back to being mini-cabs.

This is an absolutely excellent idea. A very common sight in Albany Road is a car parked on a double yellow in the early hours of the morning 1am, 2am 3am etc... diesel engine running and a man sleeping in the car in the driver's seat. Sometimes they are just listening to music while scrolling their phone with the seat back...This is an exceptional initiative. Very happy and much needed.

All I can say is that several people have written to me about lack of late hours enforcement, and I've been campaigning for this to happen.Revenue from parking is ring-fenced to transport, though I understand it does make a surplus which goes towards subsidies for disabled and other subsidised transport.The council never proposes a CPZ without it being preceded by a resident petition.The response to the BRS review was high for these kind of consultations - 257 responses to 1054 questionnaires.You're entitled to disagree with me but what I write on here is the truth, to the best of my knowledge.

I assume Raymond that you are talking about the new hours, as voted for, for the BRS CPZ. I checked out with the Parking Permit people whether one line on the Visitors' Permit would cover the two hour slot of, say, 10.00-12.00 and they said No - you will therefore need to fill in two lines on the V.P. in order to cover the new time.I've said it before but I'll say it again - it may well have been incumbent on the Council to do a review of how the CPZ was working and it seems that 'the people' made the choice to extend the hours. I don't for a minute think though that the majority who voted to extend the hours gave this much thought and instead just saw an opportunity to keep other people out of 'their' roads when a count of empty spaces in the streets at the proposed new times show that it is a wholly unnecessary move. Either they didn't give it any real thought or they are plain mean-spirited. No doubt a good few of them will be grumbling about the changes when they come in.

So Guy, what you are saying is in these times of severe austerity the Dear Leader has devised a loss making plan to placate the huge madding throng of residents who are screaming for 24 hour parking enforcement, yes ?Never mind there is not enough money for the care of the elderly or social housing, we can blame the government for that . I do not for one minute believe that huge numbers of residents asked for this. You know and I know just how much LBH have salted away in the bank from parking and it's not a loss making venture is it ?So pull the other one it's got bells on. Oh and if parking was making a loss I am sure you would be closing CPZs not opening them at every opportunity.

Er  that was me wasn't it.  Well 35 years in business and not bust yet and always in credit with a reserve. More than Carillon and Serco mange by proportion so I must be doing something right.But I am not a millionaire and My staff earn proportionally more than I do. I do 70 hours a week they do 35. I am salaried for the same .Still, I have to agree. The BRS CPZ works far better than I envisaged.This is why I'm still not happy about the changes.  Now it is clear that the Consultation went to all residents, the response is rather small.Go back to the instigation and it was a similar response. But the local community who mobilised and got out there with leaflet drops petitions and found a consensus did get a very large response which went on the petition.The end result is the scheme with the hours we have. The late hour being a radical one but the most effective for residents returning home.Guy, It was Ruth and Mel who picked this up and responded then and I'm sure she will verify this.I remain concerned that the local apathy is a mix of ignorance and that most are quite content with the Status Quo.It does not really mean much to permit holders, but I don't think those who are really affected have realised to ramifications and costs which they will have to bear, and these are likely to be the people who can least afford it.Unless of course the 2 hour period is going to cost the same as the current 1 hour.But that is not made clear.

The late night enforcement regime is in response to resident demand. My mailbox has a lot of people asking for it.As I said to another poster, if you think this is a money making scheme I recommend avoiding a career in business.

At least in BRS CPZ there are always a few free spaces at night. Unlike before the CPZ introduction. For example this morning as I was leaving at around 5:30am I counted 4 free spaces in Braemar Road alone.

Does anyone really believe this is about parking and making life better for residents. No this is just another money making scam. First you get your mugs to accept they need a cpz knowing full well that at night when everyone is home there is not enough space for all the residents to park but never mind they have already £80 for that  permit. Now send out your vultures at night to scam even more money from you mugs Can somebody tell me when one of these Councillors will actually wake up and say we were elected to try and help ease the burdens of the people who elected us not stick it to them at every chance we get to fill our coffers like some third world tin pot dictatorship.

I believe the second sentence refers to single yellow lines and parking bays. If so, it says you can't park on double yellows, for the rest you should always check.I think councils set policies on double yellow - it may be the case that Hounslow don't have 'hours of operation' double yellows and there are permanent restrictions. I can't think of any in Hounslow, but some roads are TfL managed.
