Brentford History Day...on Saturday

Isn't it a pity when dates clash? I would loved to have gone to the "history event" on Saturday amd heard the speakers..and perhaps looked at some of the old photos on view.Sadly I was away on that day..and it was also the Cup Final!Intersting item in a local newspaper the other week ..which reported on a lady who is compliling a Brentford Website  which will list all the occupants of each address along Brentford High Street...from Brentford Bridge to Kew Bridge?... to provide answers to questions like "what retail premises were at 210 Brentford High street over all the years"

Reading today's Hounslow Chronicle..it was pleasing to learn that some 300 people attended the event ..which was held at St Paul's Church.Val Bott's letter to the Editor describes the variety of happenings that took place..the talks..the displays..the publications for sale and leaflets...and most interestingly the old photos that visitors took along..and which were copied by staff from Hounslow Libraries.The message for me was that...erm...more local people are involved in these historical discussions and studies etc etc ....than you would ever imagine. This Forum's references to these matters are just fleeting...there are so many other people out there...with knowledge and wisdom..who have not arrived on this Forum...yet.  Matt needs to stir the Brentford porridge harder!!  That's unfair I know. But you know what I mean. If 300 locals can go to a brentford history meeting on Cup Final day...a few dozen newcomers to this Forum would be most welcome...and not necassarily politicians!!

Jim,As usual, I have to agree with you - Paul doesn't seem to be a football fan, but his description of the usual carry-on during games was on the nail.Nice one of Syon House and Gardens;  my dear old Dad used to go fishing there - lake or river, I don't know which, but it was step up from fishing in the little stream in Chiswick House Grounds, although he loved both places.

Ann: Don't you agree that Paul's description of football was historic?  So,lets let him off..especially if he was working.Let's enjoy a trip around Syon House and Park..golly its been there 400 years and more!http://www.syonpark.co.uk/

JimThe History Event has to win hands down, who in their right mind wants to see two teams kicking a round thing up and down a grass field and try to get it into a netted entrance, maybe the incentive is the kissing and cuddling that takes place after the round thing enters one of the netted entrances. Although some do appear to be frustrated acrobats or circus performers as they cartwheel or back flip their way to the edge of the grass field, land on their knees with arms in the air-shouting YEA! to the assembled public gathered in some sort of raise seating area. Which I believe they have to pay to be there, very weird.
