Property Prices in Brentford

Just read the report on this site about local property prices. I was amazed to find out that only 44 properties changed hands in the last three months. There are so many new buildings and even more to come. Wandering round some of the new developments they appear to be pretty much empty with little sign of people actually living there. Are they all buy-to-let?Despite this every scrap of land that becomes available is having 'luxury' flats built on them - who is going to buy them?

The ironic thing is if you went into a local estate agent and said that you were considering making a quarter of a million pound investment in a local flat and then asked for some basic supply and demand figures for the local market they would scratch their heads and wonder what you were talking about. The impression I get from press reports about developments is that there are several thousand units likely to be built over the next few years.

Yes, there is far more supply than demand in Brentford due to the new building.Let's hope the proposed development of Commerce rd. is at least put on hold in the light of all this.

Try wandering down in the evenings - the lack of lights on suggests pretty thin occupancy. Chances are many of these flats were bought by people looking to make a quick turn. The Government's new scheme to provide subsidised mortgage finance to key workers may help support this part of the market - looks like it is desperately needed. I can't help feeling that the scheme is more about avoiding a property market collapse than helping key workers.
