Who wants to be a Nappy Outreach Worker?

From the Hounslow Council Website NAPPY OUTREACH WORKER£24,114 - £25,6021 Year Fixed TermExternal funding has created an opportunity for anew innovative position of Nappy Outreach Worker aspart of the Recycling Team. If I hadn’t heard this from “the horse’s mouth” I wouldn’t have believed it.18 months ago, the girlfriend of a friend accepted a job as a “Five-a-Day Co-ordinator”.  She was a trained in nutrition and looked forward to helping people to understand the benefits of fruit and vegetables in our diet.During the first week, she was not surprised to find that she and the rest of “the team” sat in a meeting room and discussed ways of promoting the concept of eating five portions of fruit/veg per day.However, she is surprised to find that the job hasn’t changed.18 month later the team (if they want, attendance isn’t compulsory) sit in the meeting room discussing ways of promoting the concept of eating 5 portions of fruit/veg per day.In 18 months nobody has *done* anything, not even produced copy for a brochure.BTW if you want to pop down to your newsagent today, the Guardian includes a free supplement with another 98 pages of similar “jobs”.

Didn't anyone see the news the other day that FoE say there is absolutely no environmental benefit of using cloth nappies over disposable?  I'd say I'd believe FoE on this, afterall they are rare thing to hear them not espousing the recycling of anything man-made.  Apparently, the amount of repeated washing and use of detergent on said cloth nappies negates any environmental benefit.  The energy used to clean the nappy and then clean the water that cleaned the nappy is a complete waste of time and resources. I can't believe they are employing someone to persuade Mothers not to use disposables.  It's going a little too far.  In many cases, I suspect frought Mothers suffering post-natal depression might sock said "Waste Minimiser" with a soiled nappy if they even suspect they are being chastised or told how to bring up their baby.I should think most mothers haven't time to be be preached to by a Council worker on the semantics of baby hygene and it's impact on the environment. What should be done is that disposable nappy manufactures ought to be perusaded to make all nappies 100% biodegradable.

Only Hounslow Council could describe paying someone £25,000 p.a. for this bunch of crap (no pun intended) as "waste minimisation".They are laughing in the faces of the Council Tax payer, are they not?
