Excess rubbish

I, like most people, enjoyed the bank holiday and the beautiful weather. As it was so warm we waited until later on in the evening to walk our small dog, and went to Watermans park, I was truly shocked at the amount of litter and rubbish everywhere. The bins were all overflowing and there was even an old rusty, metal bench on the grass area. I have lived in Brentford for over 24 years and have never seen that park that bad. Move on to today and we walked over to Gunnersbury park via Carville hall park, again the bins were completely full and overflowing in both parks. Is there some reason why this is the situation? Gunnersbury seems like it needed a good grass mow as well but to find a bin to put dog poo bags in was very tricky.

Returning to the original point of this thread, I have the following from Greenspace360, the council sunsidiary who now manage parks:Since the transfer of Parks Services from Carillion to L360 Greenspace, we have been working hard to improve the services that we provide to residents. Litter and refuse collections form part of a wider review of the services we provide, but we acknowledge there were a series of failings under Carillion that was predominately attributed to staffing Levels. I can confirm that we have heavily resourced litter collections for the summer to mitigate these issues. Additional staff will be in place across the boroughs parks and open spaces with particular attention given to Bank Holidays moving forward. I believe the frequencies of collections is adequate for the usage of the parks and in general the issues were caused by Omissions. To cover all bases, we will be closely monitoring the condition of the parks and will make adjustments to the frequencies as required. I would welcome any further feedback after the upcoming bank holiday.

I wonder what the work roster is and How many staff are employed to empty the bins on normal days and what arrangements are made for bank holiday cover, none by the sound of it and as for credit cards never had one either maybe that is why the working man doesn't run big business they know how to budget.

Council doesn't set a good example bins along Boston manor are a haven for thefoxfamily that live along there, litter all over the street, and broken bottles, what must people live like at home ,maybe with some new councillors things will improve!

Credit Cards may be a fact of life but they are also a choice. The banks have never got 30% interest out of me, and never will.I hope the young person you refer to was still at school. If people are leaving school not knowing about interest rates, then quite frankly the school and the maths teachers there have not done their job properly.It is weird that people care so much about tiny changes in income tax, but let the banks get away with crazy interest rates.

Credit cards are a fact of life. The banks want them and what the banks want the banks get. Some people dont even know the interest they pay. A young person once asked me, "Why does the interest rate matter?"

If only we actually wanted and actually consumed what we buy - but we don't.  We don't seem to save up for anything any more we buy on a whim and a fancy and pay by credit card.  When you saved up you got the chance to think twice (or more) before you bought.There is a lot of credit card debt in this country now and this is no way to teach our youngsters how to budget.

Its our culture. Somebody sent me a link to a Rank organisation look at life. I was surprised just how dirty our treets were in the sixties. Old cars dumped everywhere etc. Nothing changes.

Then why do they buy the stuff in the first place?  They need to think before they wave their card.  Rubbish in = Rubbish out!

Oh I totally agree. However there are bins for a reason and to expect to walk around a park for an hour with a dog poo bag when there are numerous bins about but all are completely full and overflowing, seems a bit crazy.

But where rubbish is concerned whatever happened to people taking their own crap home to dispose of? God alone knows how some of them live if they show such disregard for our parks and open spaces.

The parks are not very well maintained, the bins are often full.  The zip line in St Paul’s Park has been broken for months.
