Watch for PRE AUTHORISATION charge at self servicepetrol pumps.

Its best not to use the self ser36vice credit card function at Supermarket petrol pumps. A new £99 pre authorisation has been introduced by some supermarkets for credit or debit card. One large high street bank has stopped its ordinary DEBIT cards being used in self service pumps. For full details just look on google. Its the number one search at the moment. (9/5/18 0635hrs). Solution? Go to kiosk to pay.

Many hotels want to block something like £50 on your card for anything you use or eat during your stay, however they'll also give you the option to pay as you go along.The 400 euro a night block at the Kempinski was something I've never encountered elsewhere - I suspect it was because this particular hotel was on the edge of Kitzbuhel and popular by the Russian oligarch set.

It used to work to 'our' advantage too as I recall at Tesco pay@pump no matter how much you filled up with only £1 was deducted from your account until at least 36 hours later when they'd deduct the correct amount, so you could fill up on a Friday night and not get charged until Tuesday.Not filled up at Tesco in ages so no idea if that's still the case.  I get annoyed with pre-authorisation at hotels when you've already paid for the room and then they want to put a sizable deposit on your credit card rather than paying as you go along, although most places allow you to the latter.That caused abit of a rumpus a couple of years back at a Kempinski hotel in Austria where we'd prepaid for the room but on arrival they insisted it was hotel policy to block 400 euros per night on my card for the duration of our stay.  After some amicable but firm discussion they agreed to reduce it to 400 euros for the duration of our stay.

I should make it clear you will not be charged the £99. However it could push some people over their credit limit for two days.
