Understand the sentiment but not always convinced that all that glitters is gold.I was in Dubai at the weekend and the metro is spotless, and there's signs up everywhere warning people to refrain from committing minor transgressions like chewing gum, eating or drinking on the metro, and so on, complete with a list of fines. But it's so artificial and fake, scratch beneath the surface and you know there's a huge underclass who are purposely concealed from public view, and also clearly there's a strong hierarchy - we were on a busy train and some middle aged guy slipped backwards and crashed into my Mrs. but made no attempt to apologise etc., so my Mrs. rather loudly said "it would have been nice if you'd at least said sorry" and both the guy, his male friends and the women within the group all just openly laughed at the notion that he should apologise.Give me gritty, raw and real anyday.
