Clanking manholes

Sorry to be bearer of bad news,Guy but manholes are once again  Clanking outside Morrison's, but not so loud tarmac not going to last much longer, went past there late Friday afternoon

Guy.  I remember somebody wrote on here that the manhole covers  are designed to clank prior to failing.  If failing means they break or worse then it is pretty serious.  Thanks for your response.  Lots of hard work finding these clanking man holes.  Can they be called that these days?No I haven’t been out in the sun.  ;) x

Thank you Adam, I said that I tried my best to make the covers clank but was unable to do so.  I still try, every time I go along there, by driving over as many as possible... (good grief, does the man never smile?).As soon as I hear the clank, I shall find a form to fill in, in support ...

I'm calling myself Captain Dog-Poo.TW say they will refix the one outside Morrisons. They have done the one outside Sarah Trimmer but not the ones by Kew Bridge.

Out photographing traffic to present to the the planning inquiry for the Northumberland estate's application to build umpteen houses on Park Rd. allotments this morning, and we too came across a clanker. In Park Rd. at junction with Hepple Close.

I reported to TW 3 outside Morrisons (fixed, now apparently unfixed) the one outside Watermans (fixed) one outside Sarah Trimmer and one by the mouth of Green Dragon lane(reported later and not yet checked) and one just before the Express Tavern which TW don't seem to be able to find (I have suggested use of lug 'oles)The official process is report to H Highways who take it up with the utilities but this takes ages (the one that Adam referred to H Highways fixed themselves as a goodwill gesture - eventually). Tweeting at Thames Water seems to get immediate action - disappointing if the fix doesn't last. Will have another go at the ones from Morrisons to Kew Bridge over the weekend. Other people try tweeting @thameswater for clankers elsewhere!

One only has to walk from the Commerce Road junction along the High Street/Kew Bridge Road to Kew Bridge in the last couple of months to hear at least 4 loud clanking manhole covers.The first is on the eastbound carriageway just before you get to the zebra crossing outside the Six Bells pub.  I'm sure that one is still clanking.The second is outside Morrisons as per Jean's post.The third was on the westbound carriageway between Watermans and the Ealing Road traffic lights.  Not sure if it's been sorted, was certainly there a couple of weeks back.The fourth is in the bus lane in line with a green box outside the Steam Museum.  I'm pretty sure that one is still clanking, and it makes hell of a racket if you're on the pavement not wearing headphones when a bus drives over it.There is (or was) one or two more eastbound as the Kew Bridge junction starts to form just after the Green Dragon Lane junction.In all cases (and based on my experience of the 'infamous' clanking manhole we had outside Holland Gardens which took over 6 months to be repaired) my suspicion is that they're all TW manholes and TW couldn't cares less.But, with one regular poster on here having suggested there weren't any 'clankers' (based on being in a car rather than actually walking or cycling along the road which enables much clearer hearing), it would be useful if our local Councillors at least acknowledged the above clankers and gave us some indication of their efforts to address them.

Electric or telephone wires Jim?  Presume have to report the clanking manhole(s) to the relevant company.

I reported a clanking manhole in Twickenham Road to the Council. They told me it was a matter for Thames Water who inspected it and found it contained electric wires not water.It's still clanking.JL
