Food Waste Collection!

Yet again my Food Waste was not collected(Twice in the last 4 weeks)No sticker was put onto tell me why.I went onto the Council Website to inquire as to why it was not collected only to be told it was contaminated! inside the box were Bio-Degradable Green Bags and Dry Bread absolutely No Contamination, the same thing happened to both of my neighbours again Contamination.It would appear laziness took its toll because what are the chances that 3 neighbours would have contaminated foods? am awaiting response from Council.Unfortunately the Refuse Collection Men have Carte Banche to do what they want, 2 weeks back a Neighbour across from me had to run after the lorry with his Big Bin,his Lid had been ajar a little he took a bag out only to be told after running 100 yards that it was too late, we are made aware of the Penalty for Fly Tipping however what are we to do with our everyday Rubbish when we have No Bin available. Council need to do a Time & Motion Study of their employees. Whole Box of Plastic is left because 1 Cap has been left on! Why not just take the bottle out & Empty the box?It would be interesting to know just how many of us have been Penalised.

Christopher did that absolutely Zilch in their response, our Council are quite determined to fine anyone Fly Tipping £400 to which I agree however they should be far more helpful & understanding when our Refuse day goes awry for want of a better word.

Totally agree with you, I'm sick to death of hearing how Plastic is Dangerous I Know! if only Councils would communicate & as you say have a Standard System so much more would be Re-Cycled. I wonder at times Why? we paid £28 Million for a New Plant that only does half the job.

I think the whole Re-Cycling needs to be looked at, when we had white bags I used to fill 2 every week now only Select Plastic is processed the rest goes into Refuse. Surely the plastic which goes into Refuse however as it's not Bio-Degradable it's there forever (Isn't it?).

Hi Sarah, I kept the bin just inside my driveway for 2 days hoping that Waste Collection would call back,I had reported their failing to the Council Website on Tuesday & received Computurised response saying they would investigate. I looked later in the evening to find that my Food Waste had not been picked up because of "Contamination" the same was  applicable to my 2 neighbours also.My Daughter emptied the Food Waste into my Refuse Bin as you experienced a few Maggots which were washed out with Bleach bin is as good as new,

Laziness is a problem. I had a lot of cardboard a few weeks ago that would not fit in the box. Luckily I was at home when they came round and I saw that they ignored it, so I had to follow them down the street putting it in myself. Most disappointing.Food is a safety issue, and I think it is the most important thing to be disposed of safely. The last thing we need is people fly tipping rotting food because the council is being unhelpful. I would complain to your councillor and the council about that.

What seems really daft to us is how each Council recycles some things and not others.  Should be a standard recycling system.

Its a pity that someone does not have connections with someone in Germany as they are help up as a big green nation. We could learn if they have as many problems.

Greetings, Dawn.  Not good to have food hanging around any time, but in this weather!  We had our first infestation of, very stuffed with food waste, maggots.  I can only think that a fly got into the worktop bin and laid them as we are so careful.  I lifted the lid of the street bin and they shot out in all directions.  We have a couple of foodwaste bins but only need one bin for most of the year, and we use the biodegradable bags with some food falling out, just as you describe.
