Dog care for long hols - any suggestions?

Hi all -I'm desperate! I'm going to the States in about three weeks and despite having searched up and down since before Christmas (!) I still haven't got anything nailed down. I have two family functions to go to, separated by a month, and if I go to both I'm going to be away a long time.I have a gorgeous terrier who needs looking after and I don't want to put her in a kennel. I'd like her to be in someone's home. I'd be prepared to pay of course, but some agencies are asking for £25 per day and I just can't afford it.Does anyone have any ideas?Many thanks...

Since Ann requested a progress report (thanks for your interest!)...Well, I'm off to meet Steven and his dog this afternoon to see if they will enjoy spending some time together. I'm still in the market for a 'Plan B', in case our dogs don't get on or (touch wood) just in case an emergency arises and Steven needs to put an alternative plan into action.I've just been bowled over to find such kind people on this site (and the Chiswick site) - Many thanks!

Holly, Sorry, I missed the question about which sea : The Irish Sea.Do please hurry and contact Steven Smith - I'll bet there are many other posters like me, dying with curiosity to know how you get on!  (Nosey parkers would be another description, but we mean well).

Thanks Ann -I was sort of hoping that someone might be interested in a 'dog-owning-taster' experience. And I'll have a Plan B should something go wrong. And I am prepared to pay - I just can't do £25 per day! Bessie has converted one of her former dog-sitters into a dog owner, so you never know...Which sea are you on the other side of?

Holly,If the sea didn't separate us, I'd volunteer!  Just 'babysat' my sister's peke for a fortnight, and although I don't want a pet of my own, I have to admit I enjoyed 'Dudley's' company.Maybe some kind soul on one of our forums will volunteer?  I hope so.
