Please explain...........

Given the plans for a parking levy on the Gt West Rd. for companies and the trend for limited (or no) parking to service residential developments could someone explain to me how that justifies cutting buses? After all the cry from authorities has always been that people use public transport and not their own car, how can they square that circle, or is it just me not getting it?

My query was the whole issue generally when the emphasis on using public transport is being pushed constantly. However, locally the glaring gap of transport access for kids in this part of Isleworth to the two new secondary schools up near Osterley Tesco remains unanswered. There is nothing past Busch Corner for them, which is just asking for grief with parents driving them to school, thus defeating the whole argument.

Indeed Guy but I do think the frequency of existing services needs improving.  The 65 service in particular seems all over the place, often you'll wait 15 minutes plus for a 65 and then 2 come along nose to tail.Much as I'm not exactly an ideal bus passenger (I don't like to sit down as I spend enough of the day sat down, I don't have that much patience for tourists making endless queries of bus drivers or not understanding how Oyster cards/contactless works, and don't get me started on buses with multiple pushchairs and the screaming occupants) I do actually find the bus services pretty good, but if their frequency isn't increased to cope with all these new residential units then in 2/3 years time it will be a nightmare.

As far as I can see there are no proposals to cut buses in Brentford (or Isleworth). They are proposing to stop the 27 going along Chiswick High Road (argument is the bus is little used and there are plenty of alternatives) and reroute the 440 through the business park rather than a kind of round the houses (and over the level crossing) between Chiswick and Acton. There is a separate proposal for the 440 which would route it to Acton Main Line to pick up Crossrail, which would be handy if you live in the north part of Chiswick or south of ACton.I think the main cuts are in the centre, partly to reduce the nose to tail buses polluting Oxford street (and maybe finally persuade Westminster pedestrianise it) with the 'local' interest confined to the 94 terminating at Marble Arch.

The reason I keep my car is that public transport often doesn't go to where I want to be. For instance I often go to Whitton to meet up with former workmates - it's not too far, but a faff to try and use a bus. I do though use the H20 when I have to and  to be honest I hate it - it makes me feel quite sick - not a comfortable ride and noisy.

Isn't it primarily the case that the services they are intending to cut are considered to be already adequately served by other services, i.e. they are reducing duplication ?.Of course the issue remains that then you'll have more people on fewer services, and many local services are already overcrowded and need to be more frequent - I dread getting the 65 for instance at peak times.
