BOSTON MANOR CYCLE LANE

So the Hounslow Council Highways hit squad were out checking the road. I got to talk to the one in charge. These are the bullet points i put to him.   1) - Where are all the cyclists. Have to admit  - it wasn't rush hour then.  (14 Jul 2016 - improvements to Boston Manor Road for cyclists consisting of a two way - with the most recent independent survey counting 653 cyclists in a 14 hour.)  Do your maths  = 1 bike every 46 seconds WOW,   2)   When 2 cyclists were coming down from Boston Manor station heading south ON THE ROAD. I pointed out - look their not using the cycle lane.  I was shocked at his reply "They're allowed too.   I said " The reason for the cycle lane , was for the safety of the cyclists.NOW THAT THE ROAD HAS BEEN NARROWED - IT IS EVEN MORE DANGEROUS FOR THE CYCLISTS THEN.  AS IS THE CASE  -  HE HAD NO ANSWER.   SO  -  WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY ££££££££- AS HAS BEEN SAID OVER AND OVER AGAIN.    GOD HELP THE CYCLISTS, MOTORISTS AND PEDESTRIANS NOW

Could not agree more a complete waste of money. They should count the number of cyclists who don't use it.

It's TfL and the Mayor of London more than local councillors or officers.But the lack of local input and knowledge, coupled with politicians who blindly put politics and policy above common sense again and agin is seriously playing too big a part in impeding too many schemes.They are too soft with the Mayor of London because of his party rather than his rather poor advisors and policies too many of which are falling below standard.Too soft with government too and too ready to blame it all on Brexit.The biggest problem with Brexit is it's use as a smoke screen to cover the failings of administrations at all levels. Perversely it's revealed the staggering level of ineptitude in most teirs of administration in this nation. It could be so much better for far less cost but we see this all the time. Costly and half baked and no-one ever accepts responsibility for such inept results

And the question remains, which councillors and officers are to be held accountable for this total waste of taxpayer money?  Over and over again these dimwits blunder on over unwanted cycle tracks.

As a cyclist, you know when something is wrong when the very people is is designed for don't use it.  And there are quite a few of these all over London.This could have been simple and narrower and for Northbound use only. Leaving the road wide enough for Southbound riders and all other road traffic to run unabated and in safety.  It is ironic that this was one of the easier safer roads to cycle along and now it is hazardous, but still safer on the southbound road than faffing about trying to use the track.But I still maintain the money would have been far more beneficial and wide reaching if the side streets were properly surfaced without potholes and clearly marked allowing much safer and accessible cleaner, quieter routes, which most local cyclists use and would use more if they were not so potholed and rutted.

That is spot on. Before any cycle lanes were even started they should have studied the Dutch approach. If they could not have matched that they should have left it alone and saved the money.

A few years ago a lot of money was spent in Isleworth and I suspect elsewhere in the Borough on such a waste of our money on a cycling scheme it beggers beliefSomebody in their wisdom thought painting a white box with a number inside at the end of some roads would really help cyclists but even after all these years I am none the wiser how it does so?

The problem is the box has to be ticked and the Councillors are so thick and arrogant  that they fail to comprehend that anyone with half a brain can see right through them. They LOVE wasting public money so that they can then whinge on about lack of funding and their inability to do things that are really helpful and the public really needs. Cycle lanes across Hounslow Borough were obviously designed by morons and are not used because they have been so badly designed. One would have to be very, very dense to defend the Boston Manor Cycle Lane. An idiot supreme.

Leaving Boston Manor car park last week - could not see the cyclist heading towards the junction with the Gt. West Rd.  right up until the last moment. The sight line to the left was blocked by a tree right on the entrance which crosses the cycle lane - mad!
