Ugly Apples

I know that the contracts for food in hospitals is often/always? outsourced.  I saw this as a problem many years ago when meals were handed out often out of reach of patients or too hot or wrapped in unimpenetrable packaging when the patient was out of the ward for a scan etc.  There were not enough people on the ward to help patients eat or just get to their food.  My blind FIL wasn't told what was on his plate (the clock method should be used) and there was no-one to pour a glass of water.  Not enough staff.  Staff cost money. Since the people who delivered the food to the wards were only employed for a short amount of time this food was often then taken away without being eaten. Hospital wards aren't the right place for fast food of this kind.  Many patients need more time and help to eat.  They would get better and leave faster with more attention here as most patients would like to be out of hospital as fast as possible anyway!I was just reading a couple of days ago about the elderly being delivered home late at night by taxi without care packages and without family and neighbours being informed.  I didn't think this still happened.
