Philippa.  Most of what we dispose of, while having a clear out, is reusable and is donated to charity shops.  I will check out the sites you mention.  The scout bazaar on Saturday has done the big collection and huge sort now - I have an Ikea oak veneer coffee table and a pile of knick knacks to drop off at the school on the morning, all ready for resale on the white elephant stall.  The knick knacks were donated from an executer and are covered in builders dust so I will clean them first.  These would have gone on the skip in the driveway.  Cheers Sx

Guy.  I wonder what exactly a good recycling rate is.  The Dump at Spaceway is certainly not pretty and certainly not organised.  The recycling centre at Kew is certainly pretty and certainly well organised.  The way they are both let down is by the use of black bin bags which adds more plastic to the disposal process and they hide what is being thrown in the disposal skips for general waste... ;)

Sarah - Have you ever used any of the other methods of handing on unwanted possessions - eg trashnothing.com where you can also post your wants. Garden sheds, beds, treadmills, slow cookers - you name it - there is always something somebody no longer needs that has life still in it.  When I get around to it I may put in a request for a hotbin...  It seems you can also ask for a fair offer. If it is easier than Freecycle I may succeed. After seeing what happened to stuff at Stirling Road (LBE) I despaired of anything taken there being Reused. Hurray for the Scout Jumble - but I can't see any advertisements anywhere for the things that they might want.

Sarah - I agree Space Waye is far from pretty but it has a good recycling rate. We made a cabinet decision last month to transfer management from the council to Recycle360 where the officers are real experts in recycling and waste management. They are looking at the potential to improve it - specifically to make it easier and more pleasant to use.

I use the tips pretty frequently as we down size.  What can be passed on has been and the rest goes to recycling then general waste.  I have used the tips at Hounslow and Kew and really dislike the Hounslow one as recycling there is difficult.  Kew on the other hand is a delight!  The difference, I have decided, is that Hounslow’s is a dump, whereas Kew is a recycling centre.Scout jumble sale is on Saturday at Isleworth & Syon School, Ridgeway road, Isleworth.  TW7 4PW.  1pm start....
