Re: Closure of Post Office on High Street

Noticed on the main  page that the Post Office is due to close at the end of the year and as yet no alternative site, bad enough that Nat West closed with the nearest one being Chiswick. I know it has to close with the new development but surely they should get an alternative before it does?

The main article is a little mnisleading.In one sentance it states the current Postmaster is seeking alternative premises.Later on it says the existing Postmaster is resigning?

Given the simply appalling way that postmasters have been treated - and still are - I'm not surprised no-one wants to take on a P.O. So many of them have been treated like criminals when it was the P.O.'s own system that was at fault. Private Eye have been highlighting this disgrace for ages.

The new Co-Op being built opposite Chiswick Mainline station replaces a corner shop which had a Post Office, very well used.  I think the COOP were willing to have a PO but couldn't find anyone wanting and qualified to run it.  Perhaps the current chap in Brentford could contact the CoOp and ask.

I certainly do remember and very handy it was and well used, it was bad enough when it closed and now the other lifeline for a lot of people set to close as well.

"Isleworth does have a Post Office at 477 London Rd, by the main train station." Isleworth is in sort of two parts - the bit on the London Rd. (North) and the bit on the Twickenham Rd.(South)The problem with that is that it still requires a bus journey from South Isleworth whereas before there was a P.O. on Twickenham Rd. and sometime ago one in South St.The P.O./Royal Mail no longer exists for its customers but for its shareholders and eye-wateringly remunerated management.

Let's see what happens. I'll be very surprised if Brentford ends up without a Post Office.Personally, living so close, I wish the Post Office was still at Albany Parade - anybody else remember that?

Privatisation was all about a better service. We all fell for it. Remember PO savings books? Seemed quite good to me at the time. Visit the post offices in a country just near here. You will be surprised at the automation and yes they have a PO savings account. Who wants to go to another town to find a PO?  BUT HANG ON WHAT ABOUT THE RESULTANT POLLUTION from these journies.

Isleworth does have a Post Office at 477 London Rd, by the main train station.Local shopkeepers in Brentford have been approached to see if they would be willing to have the PO, but so far there have been no takers.The more long term worry as i see it from working in the Royal Mail Delivery Office, is the increase in the amount of work we are now undertaking that used to be handled solely by the PO's. With RM looking to keep shareholders happy, selling off PO's is a lucrative ploy. With a RM delivery office conveniently located in most areas, how long till we get everything under one roof for a fraction of the cost to RM?

So what's new? Isleworth hasn't got a P.O. either - you have to schlepp into Twickenham for our nearest one or up near Chatsworth School in Hounslow.Ain't privatisation just wonderful, that and the absolutely disgraceful treatment of postmasters.
