Brentford’s Remembrance Sunday

I’ve spent four days trying to find out how to register a war veteran so that he can attend the Brentford Remembrance Day march on Sunday. I was told by the British Legion that Hounslow Council were the organisers of this and to contact them. I was initially horrified to speak to a council receptionist who wanted me to explain what the day was actually about, before putting me through to an events team who never answer the telephone. To cut a very long story short I asked to be put though to the Chief Executive office as I was fed up of being messed around. I was told that hounslow council don’t have a Chief Executive at present as the last one has left and the new one hasn’t started yet.In conclusion to all this inefficiency, I have managed to get in touch with lovely man from the British Legion in Hounslow, who has contacted me to say that although the Brentford Service shall take place, unfortunately the very short march from Brentford Half Acre to the Library, cannot go ahead as there is NOBODY available to stop the traffic!!!So shame on you HOUNSLOW COUNCIL AND OUR LOCAL POLICE FORCE! This is a disgrace!

Extremely successful Remembrance service at Isleworth - an estimated 1700 people took part and took the opportunity to view the wall of Remembrance put together by the Isleworth 390 Project and to sign the Book.Well done to all.

Perhaps the Health and Safety requirement really does prove the pen is mightier than the sword? Has anyone ever had a fatal injury as a result of a book I wonder?

I cannot understand diversity but health and safety yes. If there had been health and safety in the war less people may have lost their lives. Good luck with the book.

I have reached the conclusion that the world we live in would be very disappointing for those who fought in both World Wars. I belong to a local group who are applying for a council grant to get a book published about a local WW1 history project, the application asked us to produce policies for Diversity and Health and Safety? I thought this was bizarre and frankly ridiculous but was told they (councils) all do it - which to me is no justification at all. I really have never heard anything so bloody stupid, who is it that comes up with all this drivel? At best it is a box ticking exercise and worst a waste of our money.

A lot of people do not know what remembrance day is. Why that should surprise I am not sure. I was on a coach tour and we passed Blenheim the driver said we are as we passing Churchills birth place. I heard the couple behind talking to one another and one said Churchill who did he play for?

That’s great news for Isleworth Vanessa. I think inquiries are most important in the first instance for attending any event; registration or not. We needed to enquire if he had to be registered to actually march. We usually attend Horseguards Parade, and it requires a strict protocol, hence thinking we might have to at least let an organiser know at the very least about attending a smaller service. Not being able to march makes a sad day much sadder don’t you think?

I don't understand the need to 'register' anyone as all local services are public events.Isleworth's Remembrance Day service will march from the RBL in South St. to the War memorial outside St. Bridget's Church, and The Isleworth Society and RBL are providing the stewards/security/traffic control between them. This year sees the culmination of The Isleworth 390 Project which has researched every name on the war memorial, and every soldier will be represented by local school students, many families of those soldiers will also be present. There will be a wall and book of remembrance in the nearby school and one of the 'There But Not There' large Tommies at the memorial. Members of the public are of course most welcome as usual.
